Commission - Super Jayhawk #1 Cover
Another completed commission piece! :)
This one was commissioned by Super Jayhawk, the superheroic bird in spandex. :)
His website is http://www.hawkcave.com but unfortunately seems to be down at the moment.
I think I should stress that this is not an actual comic. The commission was for a pic of him done in the style of a comic book cover. And he seemed quite happy with how it turned out. :)
As a side-note, this pic is my first ever attempt at drawing an avian character.

Oh wow, a super hero bird, very very nicely done
There should be more super anthro animal characters besides humans, sometimes i wish that animators of good shows would do more adventure shows involving anthromoprhic animals getting super powers and saving the world like Superman does.
Superted is the only show i know that uses a hero teddy, fighting against evil, there should be more shows like it. :)

I was able to get the SuperTed DVD Boxed Set, but they don't sell it in the US. I had to get it off of Amazon.co.uk and have them ship it all the way across the pond. The trick is of course that it's region 2 and in PAL, so you have to convert it on a computer rather than watching it on a DVD player. Of course you can get many of the episodes on YouTube, but the quality isn't as good.

Actually Spotty really cracks me up, especially as he was voiced by Jon Pertwee of Doctor Who fame, which I used to watch avidly as a kid. The whole bit that he did as Spotty is really funny when you realize what kind of an actor Pertwee was.
I just wish SuperTed had other bad guys to take on! Texas Pete never seemed to be that threatening of a foil for the mighty SuperTed.

After years of waiting, it's awesome to find artists that can pull off drawing furry superheroes, much the less have interest in them! I've searched dealer dens and artist alleys at furry cons for ten years now and only have a handful of drawings to show for it. We used to have "The Legion of Furry Superheroes" do Masquerade skits where they would take on the bad guys in epic battles back in 2001-2004. Will have to see if I can dig up any of those videos, they oughta be up on YouTube if someone hasn't put them up already.
I missed getting to see SuperTed until I was in my late twenties-- either the TV stations didn't play the series out where I was living at the time. But it's awesome to catch up, too bad the series only lasted three years!
But yes, the world definitely needs more furry superheroes!

mmmm not sure, really. by students, hell yes, but by the athletic department...there might be....
well, the athletic department has gotten very sue happy for anyone using the jayhawk logo without the consent of the athletic department. they have sued 2 places for this so far, a t-shirt shop down on mass street making blue and white t-shirts and the department of engineering from the same school for using the jayhawk symbol on a letterhead.
athletics has gotten way out of control and out of line, but because they are a separate entity from the university, it gives them the liberty to well do what ever the hell they feel like. So i'm not exactly sure what would happen if they found some one else was wearing a jayhawk mascot without the consent of the spirit squad :\ the whole thing is super lame, but i don't want you to get in trouble either... i'm not sure what actions you'd need to take to cover your bases.

Good to know, and thanks for the heads-up. I did hear about the T-shirt controversy in Lawrence. I guess things have changed since I left for the coast 12 years ago. I did come by and say hi when the team came to play in the tournament in 2007 in the Western Regional, but made sure to beat it before the spirit squad did their show as I didn't want to upstage them. ;)
