Part 1
On the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom was the friendly and peaceful place known as Yoshi’s Island, home of the happy, fruit and cookie-loving dinos known as the Yoshis. They had been living carefree lives of eating, sleeping, and playing until just a short while ago when a mysterious and huge purple egg with green spots appeared in the middle of their village. At first they thought little of it beyond being an interesting tourist attraction, but as soon as it hatched and a monstrous Yoshi-like creature emerged from it a swift panic filled the area. This sumo-sized Yoshi with pink scales on its backside and gross green scales on its front half was like a nightmare to all the Yoshis. It was downright creepy and made even moreso by it’s jiggling fat body overloaded with pudge from it’s belly to its tail and even to its cheeks and chin. The saddle it wore was pitch black and looked very unwelcoming for anyone to ride on. The same uncomfortableness could be seen with the three, black, pointy spines on the back of it’s head, it’s two black eyes with glowing red pupils, and rather than hands, it had two pointy pincer-like claws.
As it wobbled around, it shook the ground with its morbidly obese body and grabbed anyone in it’s sight with it’s long tongue, in particular the Yoshis. Upon first hatching, the village of Yoshis was caught completely off guard and many of its inhabitants were eaten before they had time to react. The few that were able to escape its hunger were forced to hide in the attics of their huts, unable to save their friends that had been consumed while they only option that seemed available to them was to wait until they were found and eaten as well. They had been well aware of the strange things happening around the Mushroom Kingdom as of late by an alien force called the Shroobs, but never did they imagine their own downfall was going to be caused by this monster Yoshi, this Yoob as it was declared. However, when all seemed lost, a group of heros came to their rescue, Mario and Luigi both their baby present selves and their ones from the future came and bravely fought against the Yoob. Even when the Shroobs increased it’s size to titanic proportions or when it gobbled them up afterwards they didn’t give up. They even went so far as to explore the inner workings of the beast’s belly to rescue all the Yoshis from becoming Yoobs themselves and in the end, they stopped the Yoob in its tracks, leaving it motionless as a statue hanging on the cliffs of Yoshi’s Island.
However, this was not the end of the Yoob’s story nor was it the beginning. It was but one piece of a story yet untold.
“By boogity!” Toadbert, a blue Toad with glasses and a yellow tie said to a green Yoshi. “I did a count of all the Yoshis in the village and comparing that number to all the Yoob eggs that were in the Yoob’s belly, I can confidently say that every single Yoshi in the village is safe and accounted for.”
“That’s great,” Yoshi grunted to answer him. While the Toad couldn’t understand exactly what he was saying, his happy tone added the needed context.
“We were really lucky that we were rescued by Mario and Luigi as well as, uh, Mario and Luigi,” he commented. “And I bet they will be able to take care of all those nasty Shroobs and save the Mushroom Kingdom like they always do. But until then we have to be extra careful to avoid anymore Shroob attacks here.” He paused and looked up to see the lower half of the Yoob that was practically directly overtop the village. It was intimidatingly big and though it was now out of the energy to move, just the sight of it left him feeling uneasy. “By boogity, I really hope that big Yoob doesn’t start moving again. At that size it could very well flatten this entire village.”
“Not to worry,” stated Yoshi. “We have a couple of Yoshis up there watching him closely. If he so much as blinks they will sound the alarm and warn us. And I made sure to send two, one for each eye.”
“Uh, well, sounds like you got all that covered then,” Toadbert replied not sure if they were as well prepared for another Yoob attack as they believed they were, but he didn’t want to discourage Yoshi while he sounded so confident. “I’m gonna go and see how Yellow and Pink are doing on making cookies. With all the trouble the Yoob caused and then that royal pain scarfing up every last cookie crumb that was stored here after we escaped I have yet to even taste one single cookie.”
Toadbert took his leave of Yoshi and headed to the hut that smelled of fresh baked Yoshi cookies. “Cookies would be nice,” Yoshi agreed and looked up once more at the giant Yoob, more particularly at the cyan-colored shows on his massive dino feet. “Yoshster, I bet you would really like some cookies too if you were here. Wonder where you ran off too. Hope you aren’t in any trouble.”
“Oh! By boogity! Delicious!” exclaimed Toadbert from the cottage. “You Yoshis sure know your way around a cookie!”
“Cookie break,” drooled Yoshi quickly forgetting what he was thinking about and hurrying off to get some cookies for himself.
Atop the peak of Yoshi Island, the two Yoshis, Red and Blue, were shirking their duties to keep an eye on Yoob in favor of gulping down some food they found. “Mmm, these grapes are so juicy,” Red drooled as he smiled and rubbed his cheeks.
“These melons are tasty too,” replied Blue before shoving an entire one into his maw and gulping it down. “So tasty, in fact, I eat them too fast to even know what they tasted like.”
“You gotta learn to chew your food,” Red told him as he munched up some more grapes happily.
The Yoob was still motionless on the cliff, but while his body lacked the power to so much as wiggle a toe in one of his supersized shoes, he was still conscious and aware of his surroundings in spite of his eyes closed making him unable to see. He was, however, able to smell and despite being so high up he could faintly catch a whiff of the fresh baked cookies that Yellow and Pink had been making.
“Cookies,” that word came across his mind in and the more he smelled the cookies the more it kept coming up.
“Cookies!”
“Cookies!”
“Cookies!”
As he kept thinking about this, new stuff started to be added along with it. But they weren’t just thoughts of the cookies he was smelling now. They felt different, almost nostalgic.
“Mmm… cookies…”
“I love cookies.”
“Cookies are so yummy! <3”
“Omnomnom cookies!”
“Urp! I think I ate too many cookies…”
“M-maybe one more cookie…”
“Get back here with those cookies! I said get back here! Yoshster!!!”
“...Yoshster…” the massive Yoob managed to barely mutter out of it’s massive and unmoving maw.
“Uh, did you hear something?” asked the red Yoshi to the blue one.
“Urp! You mean like a belch?” he asked rubbing his melon-filled gut.
“Probably just my imagination,” Red decided and grabbed a banana to snack on that next.
