come on is anyone really surprised that i made a fan-appmon
it has some problems, mostly with pacing, but I really do love Appmon a lot, and I'm glad to see that the fandom is slowly starting to come around on it. I like it a hell of a lot more than I ever liked Xros Wars, at any rate!
But for all my original flavor™ fan digimon, I'd yet to make a proper fan-appmon.
so i had to remedy that problem! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
WARNING: TL;DR INCOMING
the main/base/"if i make a fan-appdriver he'll be the Buddy" appmon, top left, is Lingomon, a Life-type standard-grade appmon. He's the appmon for a language-learning app, like Duolingo (hence the name) and similar programs. I imagine it'd be a running joke that people mistake his name for 'ringomon', as in 林檎 (ringo), and wonder if he's a healthy-eating app.
I didn't want him to be a Gengomon-alike, and I felt like a bird/parrot would be too obvious, so I took inspiration from sharks, because, you know, babelfish-- and also because of his super-grade, but more on that in a second.
The screen on his belly has subtitles for everything he says in the language he's speaking (so people learning the language can read along if they can't keep up with just listening), but when he gets excited, he starts babbling so fast that his subtitles give up. (It'll often snark at him-- he'll be speaking fast, and his belly screen will read things like "(I have no idea what he's saying.)" and "If you know what he's saying, you're way ahead of me.")
His appgattai partner, top right, is Volumon, a tool-type standard-grade appmon. He's the appmon for a volume equalizer app; the switches on his headphones allow him to 'mute' other appmon (keeping them from attacking, because -- ever since Savers had the PawnChessmon need their tamers to call their attacks for them, I headcanon that digimon can't attack without calling the attack name) with the blue 'volume down' switch, or blast them with powerful sonic blasts with the red 'volume up' switch.
They appgattai into Groovemon, an entertainment super-grade appmon. He's a 'song-finder' app- you know like Shazam or Soundhound? I don't know how to refer to that concisely, haha. You play a song, and he finds it. The bars on his fins, gloves, and belly are all equalizer bars, and they light up independently. His 'belt' is a wrap-around screen; it only gives subtitles for his attacks, now, and when he's not attacking, it repeats as a ticker:
“フィール ザ ボリュム! オベイ ザ グルーブ!”
Which (more or less, I hate trying to transliterate the letter V) reads 'Feel the volume! Obey the groove!' in English, transliterated into katakana. It's his catchphrase. All the cool mons have them.
The speakers in his hands specially resonate with his headphones, so if he puts the speakers to his headphones, he can create massively destructive sonic blasts to fight with.
Also, this is why I used sharks as my inspiration-- because he's a groove shark. Har har har.
Groovemon appgattais with Codemon, an encryption app appmon (super-grade system type) to form the ultimate-grade Jammon, a signal jammer app.
(Yes, I know Jammermon exists. Consider: MCmon exists, I can do literally whatever I want.)
I half-joke that this would be their theme song if I ever create a Buddy for him.
