Hello hello, Friendos! Can I interest you guys in some fresh, commissioned art, goodness? Well okay!
This piece is for
York_Indayla of an ex-thief living in a feudal era, Tenjou.
Punished for his crimes, he had his thieving arms amputated and was burnt alive. He did not die, however, and while now "disarmed," he gained tk powers. He considers himself born again by fire, but still retains a bit of his old ways.
Anyway, I had a LOT of fun with this piece. I've been wanting to play with my poor, neglected India Ink pens for some time, and this was the perfect character to get back into it with. The idea for this dude popped into my head immediately, and rather than pencil that bold shadow behind him, I thought ink would REALLY make it pop. I then went in and digitally added a splash of colour, because, why not, amirite?
If you're still reading at this point, it MAY interest you to know that I actually had to do this piece twice. On the first attempt, while using a piece of paper to overlay between the piece and my hand -- in an effort to prevent smearing -- a piece of the felt from the brush-tip of my pen came off while filling in that shadow. It then worked it's way under the paper I was using to TRY and keep the lines safe. You can guess what happened next while moving the paper buffer back and fourth, up and down, along the piece. It was frustrating, but I loved the idea for this piece too much. I took a breather, as well as the rest of the day off, heh -- came back to it the following work-day, and here we have a finished Tenjou!
Anyway, set-backs aside, I loved doing this piece, mixing my medias, and am SUPES excited with the finished product. Enjoy.

A thousand pardons for my tardy comment. But let me start by saying how much I adore your rendition. I notice that the strips of bandage hanging of Tenjou's stumps appear as if they're wrapped around invisible limbs. I also quite like the minimal bandages you've placed around his body, which gives the realistic impression that if it was left to him to try and reapply the bandages by themselves, that'd be result of using just his feet. (I mean, sure, he does secretly possess telekinesis, but he probably needs to put up appearances for the vindictive baron who thinks otherwise)
The minimal bandaging also helps to display one of his defining characteristics. I'll be brief when I say that burn scars and boils must not have been easy for you to draw, but I also commend you for pulling off a believable scarred look. But most importantly maintaining an air of dignity about him, and the shadowed silhouette of his old glory days.

Oh my goodness, I hadn't replied to this yet? Sometimes, I'm just the worst!

I REALLY loved doing this character in this fashion. I can never thank you enough for the full artistic freedom you give me and allow me to take these characters in different directions, whether it's in design or like in this case, medias. I've been itching to break out my India Ink pens again, for some time. And this idea just hit me and I HAD to run with it.
As per the usual, you've picked up on every detail of even the tiniest/subtle measure.
Also, I've made it no secret that one of my earliest influences artistic, was Todd McFarlane. So I was already no stranger to drawing burn-scarred characters, heh. Tenjou was right up my alley.
