This morning, when Miasma got up, he felt that something was off. He had a nagging feeling that something big was going to happen. He could not remember if there was someone that was going to come by for a visit to the lines. As he padded through his cavernous den, his footsteps echoed to fill their emptiness. He turned to enter into what Miasma called the Line room. It was a large section of the cave that had been smoothed from the past water that used to encompass the whole cave. The sides shone with the crystals and gems that were embedded there. Miasma stood at the mouth of the entrance, looking around the walls. He paused, staring into the empty room. As he moved towards the center of the room and took a seat, the room was flooded with light. Small stars faded into existence, each glowing brighter or duller depending on the different lives. As the stars began twinkling, lines formed between each stars, some remained alone, while others branched out to many of the other stars.
Miasma watched the stars and the lines, paying close attention to any of them that seemed out of place. His tongue flickered in frustration, as he observed no changes. He sat in silence before hissing in annoyance as he went along to observe the stars for any changes. He spent the next several hours watching each line closely for any and all changes that would affect them. Exhausted, Miasma stood up, walking through the lines and stars and out of the cavern. He sighed as he saw the room empty out of the corners of his eyes. Distracted with his own thoughts, he walked back into the tunnels of his cave. It was only when he heard a voice call out to him that he froze. He jerked his head to see the new visitor, his eyes growing wide when he saw who it was.
“Brother?”
The female cobra stood near the entrance of Miasma’s den. Her tail twitched in the air, as she looked at him, happy to see him. Miasma stared at her, watching as a glowing blue line connected him to her. He attempted to keep the panic that rose within him. Fear seeped into his eyes as he continued to watch her, “Sister…”
Her smile grew brighter as she started to step towards him, “I knew I’d find you again.”
Miasma took a step back, “Charm. Please.”
“What’s wrong?” Charm stopped, looking at him.
“Why are you here? You should leave.” He shook his head.
“But I just got here. Why would I leave?” She grew defensive.
“Just… Please. For me.” Miasma took another step back.
“No. I’m not leaving until you at least talk to me like a normal sibling!” She hissed at him.
“I can’t!” Miasma hissed back at her, standing tall, “Leave!”
“Father was right not to go after you.” She glared at him, her tail thrashed in anger, “You’re a lost cause.”
Miasma hissed back at her, “You have no idea what you speak of.”
“Then tell me!” Charm shot back at him, “Let me help!”
Miasma scoffed, “You cannot help.”
“Then talk to me.” Charm’s anger fizzled out as she moved closer to him, “Why not go out for a short walk? Some light would do you well.”
Miasma glanced back at the star chamber before sighing. He knew he would not be able to keep avoiding her as much as he wanted to. He shook his head before looking at her, “Alright. Just for a few minutes.”
Charm smiled and waited for Miasma to come a little closer before they both walked outside in the sunlight.
