Found this turtle while mowing (no, I didn't hit him, he's perfectly fine). I think my turtle is a southern painted and this is a midland painted. I don't know what he was doing out there, but he had some mud on the back of his shell and he had lots of moss and other stuff growing on him, so I didn't want to keep him. He was a big guy too, probably along in years. If you look at the scutes in the middle row, going down his back, the left one is messed up, like it was broken into three pieces a long time ago and healed up. He has character! I didn't toss him into the pond 'cause I didn't know how deep it was, so I just kinda softly lobbed him into the weeds nearby where he could decide to go back in or try his trek again (after the mowing was done.)
