There are a number of people that are into historic combat that have proved that pulling a weapon from ones back is quite awkward and could take so long that they might be dead long before they got the weapon drawn. They have shown shots of movies and TV shows where the actor would go for a sword on their back, the shot would end and when the shot was started up again the actor would have the weapon out and ready to use. There was no actual footage of the actor actually drawing the weapon fully from their back. After I saw this I confirmed it for my self that is what happens in movies and TV shows. Now there is one way for someone to carry a weapon on their backs but they would have to not only to remove the weapon from their back but also the scabbard with the weapon and then would have to draw the weapon out of the scabbard which is time consuming.
On a side note they also have given enough good information to show that though a man at arms or knight might carry a side sword that in combat with other well armored combatants that the sword would be the last weapon they would want to draw. Something blunt like a mace, war hammer, or something like a war spike. A sword would just slide along the armor and do no damage where a mace or war hammer would brake bones even though it did not penetrate the armor.
The whole a sword is not that effective against plate armor is one of the reasons when I go to a ren fair in Cadmus my Minotaur fursuit I carry a mace at my wast and not a sword. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23256034/

And here you utterly miss the concept of Roleplay and LARP. Be happy I am not showing this comment to the groups here, or they tear you appart.
But do not go in your usual atire to a mediaval burg fest or you will get laughed at there (going in fursuit there is something diferent)
