After yet another failed drawing attempt. I wanted to express my frustration in words since that is all I can do. This is basically how this night went.
Jack set at his desk staring at the blank piece of paper in front of him. Carefully he pulled out his pencil and ruler and began to work. First came to the dividing lines for his picture. One straight down and the other straight across so they’ll be four boxes. As soon as he was finished he stared at the paper in disgust. The lines were not centered properly on the page. Oh, well, he figured. He began to draw. Using the series of pictures on his iPad and the one he printed out. He tried to draw a human person. He was desperate to contribute something to the online community. First came the head, misshaped and without detail. The arms and torso were even bigger disasters. He drew some desperate looking legs and feet. The right foot was missing a toe.
“Ahh, I can’t do it!” he shouted in frustration. “I don’t understand how people can do this. It’s so hard.”
He plucked the paper from his desk and tossed it in the trash can. Giving up after about a minute of work. He pulled the other sheet of paper he printed out earlier that night and stared at it longingly. The details were so clear and crisp. The colors defined and the emotion on the man’s face was a complete description of what he must have been feeling at that moment.
“This is my favorite one,” Jack said bending over the picture. He loved it because it gave him a warm feeling inside that he could not explain. The way each scene was drawn was handsomely done. It was a perfect depiction of a man changing into a gorilla. The first scene of the changes starting. Divided so the viewer could see the arms, legs, and chest expand as the gorilla began to overtake the human. Then the head finishing the transformation. Lastly the final image of the ape sitting with his bananas with a look of confusion of too why he was like this.
Jack sighed and spoke, “I wish I was a gorilla, then I would not have to worry about any of this.”
He leaned back in his chair still wet from his recent shower. He thought about getting dressed for bed but the idea of giving up his chance to draw kept him there. He wanted to contribute his own work to the online world of gorilla transformation artwork. It was his passion and obsession.
As he stared at the picture in front of him, his body began to itch. He scratched his chest mindlessly as he imagined himself as a gorilla. All the things he would do. What it would be like. As he pondered, his chest began to grow darker. His pale skin turned a dark gray as it grew becoming more muscular. His stomach expanded as a thin layer of hair covered it. He closed his eyes oblivious to the changes happening to him. His arms became larger and thicker like logs. Thick black hair sprout all over him leaving little exposed skin. The same thing happened to his legs. They too grew larger and more muscular. The thick black hair had soon covered him. His feet felt funny as the bones shifted and grew becoming fingers and hands. He yawned as his head morphed into a new shape. Sharp teeth protruded from his mouth. His skull became rounded and his chin grew outward. Black hair spread around his head leaving only his face and ears exposed but they too had become dark and latex like. His eyes turned a dark brown color as they sank into his skull. His nose shrunk into his face leaving two large holes. His forehead dropped over his eyes.
He scratched his body feeling incredibly itchy. As he scratched his eyes burst open. He looked down at his new body as his heart beat rapidly in his chest. His raised his giant hairy arms and fletched his wrinkly fingers. He did the same with his feet. He felt his firm chest and stomach as if to make sure they were real. He stood up and walked to the floor length mirror. He was standing on two legs but it was exhausting.
There he was. A gorilla. He raised his arm and the ape in the mirror did the same. He beat on his chest with massive knuckles just to feel what it was like. He scratched his head to feel the course hair. He felt strong and unbreakable. He rushed back to desk and looked down at the picture. He breathed heavily as he looked at it. It was just like in the picture. He had become a gorilla. He smiled widely and jumped around the room causing it to shake. He stopped thinking about his neighbors. He lived alone in an apartment building but that did not mean he would not attract attention. He looked back at his reflection and realized he was one handsome ape. He had seen pictures of real gorillas but he was somehow better looking.
“What do I do now?” he spoke in a low grunting voice. He checked the clock. It was almost 1 a.m. He walked over to his bed and gently laid down. He rested his hands on his chest and waited. He was going to leave and explore the world but he was not going to be seen though. He knew what would happen if someone saw a full grown gorilla walking around. He closed his eyes. As he laid there he began to wonder, “Now that I’m a gorilla. How do I change back?”
