What an interesting portrait you have here. I love the smoothness of the textures and cold expression on the character's face. The jagged hair accentuates his expression and gives him a sense of edginess that contrasts with the formal dresswear he has.

I am really curious as yo what type of surface you use to get such a soft effect with the pencils.
Bristol? Illustration board? And I'm assuming you use a high quality pencil like prismacolor?

Anything with either a smooth surface or a soft surface if it's gritty. This one was card stock. But Paris paper (it's a paper used for ink mostly) is super smooth. :) And I use prismacolor.
