The first page amounts to what is known as a "cold open". I don't know if there is an equivalent in the comics world, but here you go.

Roland here is caught in a dilemma. Nothing in the activity book appeals to him. And no wonder, he's never given any thought as to how he could make use of a tropical getaway. So he's situated himself on a small floating dock at the end of a complex of overwater cabins where no one can bother him while he tries to work out a schedule. But he's not having any luck--he's also missing a certain skill that would allow him access to a significant chunk of them.

Technical:
Nothing earthshaking about this splash page, but further along I will have to do some learning with CSP's capabilities when getting into effects work in subsequent pages.
