Constructive feedback from a photographer.
The lighting here is a bit off, it's soft but also harsh. The highlights on the knuckles/shoulders ect are a tad too bright/harsh but the fall-off around thoes highlighted areas is soft. The highlighted areas looks like the light source, likes he's glowing from the inside, from under his skin.

Well, I know how to read light, and somewhat use it with Photoshop, but to make it from scratch via painting. That's mind boggling to me.
If you want to education in light just start looking at photographs and try to figure out what light is being used and it's direction.(and then why they used it in that way).
Any photographers will do but here's a few for you.
