Biggest Little Fur Con had a wonderful theme this year, which I recommend anyone who's interested in take more of a look at here (at least while the link is still active); in short, it was a sort of Pacific Rim + Attack on Titan story of heroic warriors protecting their homes against Kaiju mysteriously appearing in the world. There was some tremendous artwork and a great story to go with - one of the bits of swag from the con was an 80-page artbook with the story printed into it (as well as more sections than up on the webpage), which I would love to see other cons use when it would be appropriate.
I asked
P_Moss if she'd be willing to draw Persephone again, as I hope to make that a sort of tradition, and I thought she'd do a great job of working Persephone into this world - which, of course, she did as can easily be seen! I have this hanging up already, right over where I normally sit as well, since this is one of the best pieces I physically have, in my opinion.
The warriors working to protect their homes use Defensive Aerial Versatility Devices (also known as D.A.V.D. gear) and fight in teams of two, the Hammer warriors attempting to distract the Kaiju long enough for the Chisel warriors to climb onto them and get into position, the two working together to shatter the red Pearls that give a Kaiju its power. D.A.V.D. gear comprises a skinsuit with armor overlays attached - more to protect against shrapnel than a Kaiju's attacks directly - as well as the D.A.V.D. unit itself, and finally the warrior's choice of weapon, either the gravity hammer depicted here or a combination of climbing claw and chisel unit.
The Pearls seem to offer, amongst other abilities granted to Kaiju, the ability to manipulate mass and gravity, allowing Hammer D.A.V.D.s to lighten their hammer for maneuverability or add to its mass for fatal strikes, as well as the miraculous flight that the D.A.V.D. packs themselves offer. A bit like the Mass Effect, from the sounds of it.
Of course, as 'Seph's stories show, she has a bit of... history with hammer-wielding foes, so I found it wonderfully ironic for her to end up wielding a hammer to protect people in this setting. :)
P.S. I rather like the way 'Seph's 'bangs' were drawn here, they remind me a touch of Grace Sciuridae's hairstyle when transformed; I might actually keep that as an option for 'Seph's hairstyle!
