The first of my latest free raffle winners. Gouks picked a pretty cool one for me to work with! Hovering has proven to be a good concept to work with for these, between this one and this one.
The cross-hatching though! Very difficult for me to reproduce to paint in the gaps. I never use a drawing tablet, but even if I did I don't think it would have helped. In my college drawing classes I never could get the hang of that kind of "hatched" shading style. There's just something about doing it that doesn't compute in my brain. It looks great when other artists do it! coffeefoxgraphics's use of it here is wonderful! But can I reproduce it? Noooooo. Not without cheating. And the way I cheated here was... sigh... embarassing. I modeled hatches in blender and warped them to the shape I needed. Humiliating! But eh, it's the way I do things often, forbetter or worse.
And yeah! I did actually take two college drawing classes! Ha! Yeah... :S
