Got one of these myself. It's a very common sword made between the 1940s-1950s as a sort of mass production Talwar for less upper class Indians. Primarily meant to be a decorative sword, but it is functional, though not really tempered in a way to take a lot of punishment. There are a few examples of this exact line of mass production sword being used in combat situations from attacks on British soldiers where the swords performed as expected, to a senseless street murder where the sword was destroyed by being weilded by an amateur who didn't make any effort to avoid hitting the pavement.
The way it is balanced isn't cavalry adapted, but CQC adapted, along with the small grip - you hold the sword with a straight wrist and move it in a sort of drawing motion close to your body, always keeping the wrist locked straight.
