Thanx Grau. I figured that someone here would know the proper name. That stuff shows up in the oddest places. O.C. in that period was nowhere like it is today. nice, quiet, not so crowded, and there was a lot of loose sand around. People would get stuck in the parking areas behind the beachfront houses which was a lot of loose sand with a little clamshell gravel mixed in. easy for getting stuck if you had too heavy a foot!! We had some pretty good aces... I even found one with my family name. He flew P-38's. Someone asked one of the German aces why they had so many kills vs the allies and he told them, 'All you had to do to find the enemy was take off.'

Eastern front, that is the answer. Gerhard Barkhorn claimed all his 301 kills on Eastern front alone, Wilhelm Batz claimed 234 of 237 kills on Eastern front as well

Now about those images at the top of the plane, right in front of the cockpit. Did you notice they are veeeery similar to the image used in Japanese video and manga for a vein popping out on someone's forehead and indicating they are angry? Coincidence? I'm thinking not, though I can't be sure.

I wasn't aware, though looking at the picture I'm thinking I have that expression from having to stuff my ears into the helmet...
