Today I once again decided to do some doodling instead of working. I did this particular doodle with two things in mind.
One: Go for a pseudo-cartoony style, instead of my usual pseudo-realistic style.
Two: Eyeball everything, instead of paying super close attention to getting all the proportions right the way I normally do.
I think it's... well, it's passable. It's recognizable as Argent. But it just doesn't feel right, if that makes any sense. This cartoony style doesn't feel like it's mine. So I have no plans to pursue it any further.
Note that this is NOT her new design. Her new design is being done by a friend of mine, and I have no idea when (or, really, even if) he'll be done with it.
In fact, I'm making myself promise that this is the last picture I'll draw of Argent until her new design is finished. I might still commission other artists to draw her in her current design, and of course I'll have no qualms against writing stories with her. But I won't be drawing her myself for a while.

It's a good thing if it looks weird and wrong to you. That means you can still spot your mistakes and analyse where you need to improve. Artists often turn blind for their own mistakes and only realize months or years later how bad their drawings have been at that time, so you can't actively seek to improve your style.
Yeah, there really isn't any way around lots and lots of practise, but you're doing fine so far. I can tell you really want to improve, so that's what you will accomplish in time :)
