Red Velvet Mite - Trombidium sp
Taken locally at Grandview park deep in the woods. It's a beautiful park, I just love the long, rocky walking trails. Hopefully will be going back many times this Summer :) There were several of these little guys skittering around on the bigger rocks. This one was the brightest red.

http://www.ppdl.org/dd/images/clover_mite.jpeg 8D Sorry for all the posts. I'm just fascinated. ahah.
my sister had her wedding in the north georgia wine country a couple years back
after the ceremony, i was one of the first to the reception where there was a massive stone wall surrounding the dining area
and wouldn't you know, i thought to check it out, natural stone is non-existent in florida after all
in doing so, i placed my hand against the side, *squish!*, i pulled my hand back to the site of dozens of cranberry colored stains on my palm
i was just completely wtf thinking the rocks must be sharper than they looked, but no, a few of the "blood stains" were moving!
it was these guys and by the countless thousands, so here i am realizing that many of the pictures had not yet been taken frantically trying to warn
people not to touch sit on the wall which just happens to be at perfect butt height, thankfully i had enough time and the potential hi-res picture crisis was averted
i hadn't ever seen these before, but i did know after looking closer what they were, still had not a clue that they occurred in such large numbers
at certain angles the dark charcoal colored wall actually looked reddish
