Michael Jackson Tribute
I was literally posting the Fawcett/McMahon tribute when Michael kicked the bucket....as a natural shock to all who heard the news.
Personally I prefer the Black pre-85 Michael Jackson of the Thriller and Bad days over the crazy Old creepy white woman wannabee Michael who molests kids.
Honestly....I don't weep for him...he was pedophile...plain and simple, a creepy, fucked up man who should have been locked up years ago.
I have a better Michael Jackson drawing I'm going to work on and will post here.

That man did more for the world with his music as a caregiver and an artist.
He created more dance moves then James Brown, and sat with some of the greats in the high seats.
NO LOSS?
Despite what this country did to him, I imagine other places in the world might be grieving more than here! Especially what the media did to him...

I agree with some of what you're saying.
I prefered Micheal when he was younger, not the plastic-filled "person" he died as. But I don't think you should be so harsh. Even though he was a creep, he didn't do anything to you, so, maybe be a little more gentle. He still had a masssive fan base (not me, though), and he was a great singer...he was just messed up. But sometimes thats what people do: awesome at what they do, crappy or reeeaaaallly messed up the rest of the time.
I was shocked when I heard the news, but, like you, I won't be shedding any tears over him. Sorry Micheal, you just didn't cut it...

Being in my late 40's I grew up with the Jackson 5 blaring in my ears.
When I hit my 20's I found the only album I enjoyed was his Thriller album, but that's the only one.
But overall (especially as he grew older) he really creeped me out too. And with so many twisted spoofs of him (South Park comes to mind) and the pedophile charges.. the creepiness got worse.
Jackson of the 80's... was astonishing.
That's what I prefer to remember.

I'm with you Rabbi, the man's life and everything was just, wrong, twisted and wrong
They had one of MJ's friends on the phone going "I TOLD him all the drugs he was doing was going to kill him! I told him! And look where we are, where there's smoke, there's fire!"
If this turns out to be a OD of drugs, I am going to go outright with all the jokes I have been seeing, the best one so far is...........
"Like how MJ wanted to buy the elephant man's bones, Disney is reportedly offering to buy MJ's body, his plastic exterior is perfect for animatronics"

He will be missed...although the rest of the world might miss him more than in this country after what the media did to him...
>:C I know I will, and now all his assets will become collectible! Those albums and that my dad has will probably skyrocket on the market!

MJ was The 80's. There is no doubting what he has contributed to our generation's music. One has to wonder what troubled his life that he changed himself so drastically over the last 30 years; he had become a shadow of a man that people now only ridicule and point and yell at; that alone is probably wrong. It's hard to know for sure what was really going on that never made it to the tabloids; like what was going on in his mind. While I may not agree with many of his personal choices; there's no denying the talent he had and the love he had for the world. MJ, wherever you are now, rock it up and do us proud.
Rabbi-Tom, as much as I respect you as an artist and someone with a sharp wit and even sharper tongue, I have to strongly disagree with your last sentence of your image comment.
He was NEVER convicted of child abuse and/or molestation in either trial.
In the 2005 one he was cleared of all charges. Apparently because it turns that the parents of the allegedly "abused" child were trying to effectively extort money out of him with this claim. I believe they were sued for fraud shortly afterwards.
The first trial was settled out of court. That may seem that Jackson was trying to cover up the "truth" and hush up the family, but tellingly the evidence that the child could recognize a mole on Jackson's genitalia was proven to be untrue anyway, whilst most of the other accusations of abuse remained unfounded and unproven.
Did MJ sleep with children? He almost certainly did, as he admitted himself in the "infamous" Martin Bashur (sp?) interview he conducted several years ago. But those closest to Michael knew that he did not molest or harm those children.
Did MJ make a bad decision in doing so? Definitely.
However when you consider the "childhood" (or rather the lack thereof) he had, being beaten along with his brothers and sisters at the hands of their father, being the lead singer of the Jackson 5 at the age of 5 and being in the public spotlight from then onward. To consider that he used to cry when he saw kids playing outside whilst he was stuck at home doing hour upon hour of music recording and dance routines... Being surrounded by celebrity "friends" and all sorts of showbiz hangers on from the very beginning of his glittering early days....
You tell me that anyone isn't going to be affected by it in varying degrees.
You tell me that an already shy child wasn't going to further dive into his shell under the constant onslaught of his father's demanding personality, vicious beatings and his brand of "parenting".
It'd certainly make sense that perhaps the reason Michael had so many operations on his face that ended up looking as the "Creepy, Old, White, 2008 Jackson", was because he just didn't WANT to look anything like the man who had caused him and his siblings so much pain and suffering as a child.
No, this isn't an excuse for the increasingly eccentric and erratic behaviour he displayed in the later part of his life, just a (possible) explanation.
So perhaps you're rather judgmental (and possibly cruel) statement was quite possibly in bad taste.
Just my 2 pence.
(Oh and BTW, Jackson was already having plastic surgery on his face before 1984. If you want "au natural" Michael Jackson, you'd be better off drawing him from his "Off The Wall" album.)

I appreciate the tribute, Rabbi. For all his faults, Michael was one of the artists who defined the whole feel of the 1980's, and changed the face of pop music. For all his...er...eccentricities, he was a brilliant artist. It's a real shame what he did to himself as his star began to fade, and it was really unfortunate how he behaved so unappropriately around those children. But I'm inclined to think that he hadn't ever done anything out of malice, or out of a predatory impulse....I'm not sure if there's really any evidence that he ever did anything sexual with those kids. I think he was acting out of a desire to get in touch with the childhood he never had, and he really didn't have any restraining influences in his life to set him straight. He was a deeply flawed man, but a very talented one. And madness often goes hand in hand with artistic talent. I prefer to remember him back around the Thriller era as well.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
I'm not going to rejoice at his death, even though I too feel that he was guilty of many of the crimes he was accused of, crimes that I would consider unforgivable, which no amount of charity money could excuse or absolve.
He inspired millions, helped charity organizations worldwide, but I also feel that in his later years he was a mentally troubled celebrity with enough popularity and legal clout to keep himself comfortable and out of trouble.
Even with all this, I'm not going to celebrate his death. Death settles all bets, and while there are going to be those who feel a lack of closure, or retribution, he is beyond any of our feelings.
His surviving family and fans who mourn for him however, are not immune. And at this time of loss, I feel that it would be inappropriate for me to speak venom about him.

I have to wonder if MJ would have been the person he became if "Thriller" had not become the biggest selling album ever made. "Thriller" is, in my opinion, the best thing to have happened to MJ's career, and the worst thing that could have happened to his personal life. When any celebrity gets as much fame and industry power as MJ had during the 80s, that automatically means that there's a whole bunch of people who are relying on them (directly and indirectly) for their paycheck. So when he started behaving... *ahem* eccentrically, there really wasn't anybody there to tell him he shouldn't be doing those things.
Sadly, I think there's a whole generation of people who will remember MJ as not the music industry powerhouse he once was, but for the creepy pedophile reputation he culled when his star began to fade.
Oh well...who's next?

Outside of Stevie Wonder, Ron Howard, Jodie Foster, and Kurt Russell, it is difficult to list many other child performers who grew up "well-adjusted" and popular enough to continue on as high-profile stars as adults.
Their own childhoods weren't exactly *normal* by most standards. The judgments they used in their teen and adult lives may differ in "right" and "wrong" when they "had it all" at some point in their lives. The price of superstardom.
Jackson knew how to get his audience's attention on stage and in the studio.
I'll leave it at that.

I beleave south park did it best with how he acted. He was a big kid trapped in his own little world of how things worked and never really did grasp how the real world worked. That in itself was part of his odd sort of magic that his music had and the reason why he came off so creepy.
Did he molest children? Quite possible, children from homes where abuse like that happen tend to become the abuser. And Mj had all of the traits of one. However, I will say its really odd that most of the parents in those cases all shut there traps when offered money. Now that's either a really sucky parent or someone was only interested in money. Because if it had been my child that said someone abused them I'd likely try to kill them or cut off the offending apendages.
He did some good, he did some bad. Let whatever god/gods he followed judge him.
