Family/Household: Pivec
Races/Species: Humans, dragons, faes, griffons, hippogriffs,
Casters: Mages, witches, warlocks, dragons, drow, high mage, archmage, druid, necromancer
Description: The Pivec are magical users of shadow, manipulating them in just the same way as the Fhena. Although the power of their spells varies, they are strongest when used at night or on a solar eclipse. Training to be a shadow user takes a few years longer than mastering light, but the benefits are seen as they can create walls of shadow and envelop their opponent in an endless night. They are used best as ambush casters, stalking their pray, waiting for the right time to strike. Members of the Pivec can seem anti-social, maybe even paranoid, but that is only because of the threat of the dark side and people or magical creatures of evil trying to steal their technique of how to mimic a black hole. Only a few have done this, usually leaving them weak and frail for a long time before they can recover. Training as a shadow user is intense, focusing on control and stamina as well as power and chaos, to an extent.
History: The Pivec have survived for thousands of years by sticking to the shadows, trusting no one else except family and fellow house members. Their patience and heartlessness towards killing the enemy has led to some distrust among the houses, but they all know that to survive, they must stick together. Just like the Fhena, their magic decreases their life force every time they use it. When used in war, it can be made to devastate the enemy with giant balls of black fire of or similar vortexes of gravity that can suck in an opponent and shred them to bits. Even if some may think of the Pivec's magic as evil and tainted, the users wielding the magic are pure and strong.
While the Fhena are intelligent, gaining or feeling through the energy contained within the light they wield of everything it has seen or felt itself, the Pivec are master strategists. They is usually one or more Pivec on the war counsel, planning troop movement and surveying the battle field when others are asleep. Their cunning and stealthy approach makes others wary but respectful of them at the same time.
The only family that the Pivec are at odds against are the Fhena. The arguments that most likely break out because of them never end in bloodshed, but always leave more mistrust between the two. Every 500-750 years however, when a light and shadow user has a child, the result is mutual respect as the combining of light and shadow provide ample advantage against the dark side as well as a large pool of knowledge gained. It is rare for the child of light and dark to have to settle squabbles between the houses, as they do not want to risk the child turning their back and joining the enemy.
Locations: As the Fhena live in hot and warm environments, the Pivec surprisingly do not live in cold, freezing tundra's. Although they do reside in Northern Canada and Russia, they usually live near volcanoes, cities, and swamps. Their varied living arrangements grant them close to the same nature instincts and survival skills in the wild as the Cuojee do.
Size: The Pivec live solitary lives unless they are threatened by a powerful enemy, only then do they gather to extinguish the fool who tried to kill them. It has only been recorded of one or two Pivec living together, usually Father and son or a rather strong shadow user. Females are about as equal as males in population up until pregnancy. It is uncommon for a wife to survive, as the strain usually weakens their own magic, leaving them exposed to normal illnesses and diseases. Fathers always take care of the son or daughter, protecting them with their life until they are trained enough to go to school and start mastering how to use the shadow.
