"I will maintain", national motto of the Netherlands.
Tribute to the Dutch national women’s team, the Lionesses, for making history yesterday with their first EURO cup. I am normally not all that invested in football (or soccer, if you prefer), but this was an event I didn’t want to miss. Women's football is disproportionately underappreciated in the Netherlands compared to men's football, and this victory is an important step towards their public recognition. I’m stoked for the team, but also for all of the young women and especially little girls in the Netherlands who aspire to become professional football players. For them this victory will no doubt be an example and an inspiration. Well done ladies!

As a USA Citizen, I will fully support that our WNT (Women's National Team) is far superior to watch than our men's. Nothing against our men's team, but the passion that the women's team plays with is unparalleled. I would definitively say that women's soccer is more fun to watch. Great pic!
I enjoy watching both national teams play (though the men like to pretend to be hurt a bit more, I feel - not as much of that drama with the ladies), but I will admit that this victory moved me a lot more than any of our men's wins have in the past. I was really rooting for them. Given that most of those women can't even live off of the money they make as professional athletes, they have fought so hard for this. Really hoping this will get them the sponsors they need and the national recognition to actually make it into a viable career path for women (as it very much is for men - the average male national player in NL earns several hundreds of thousands per season).
Been living in the netherlands for 25 years now, never heard nothing of a french motto :)
But I'm not that much into soccer, only in the high leagues, so maybe it's a club motto? I dunno, just never heard it before
A dutch motto I know is
Eendracht maakt kracht = Strength in unity
it's often rewritten to fit God, Lions, or other countries in there

I have been living in the Netherlands for 27 years and it has been our shield motto since 1815 ;) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_maintiendrai
A lot of countries have a royal or national motto like this. In the US it's "In God we trust". "Eendracht maakt macht" is actually the Belgian national motto. France is "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité", and so on. It's a pretty neat historical thing.

Late comment is late, but this is fantastic. Congrats to them! I watched the World Cup a few years back when it was Netherlands vs Spain and it was pretty awful, so it's good to see that the women's team knows how to get shit done.
