Once I was pretty much done with the giant horn order, I needed to make something new. This is what I ended up with. I riffed off of the head base pattern I worked out for the pup hood I made a while ago. I was pretty happy with the fit of how the beak nestles up against the face. I'm not super sure whether it'll fit other people, but I'll make my friends try it on later.
This photo shows it still being worked on. I popped the rivets in there to hold things together while I worked. I made some tweaks and re-cut a couple pieces after I took this photo. I've got it stained and finalized now, but haven't gotten nice photos yet. At this stage though it looked particularly steampunk.
I do find it good to prototype things by hand sometimes. When I'm more concerned with fit on the body than getting the perfect shaping of the 3D form, it's the way to go. For me, it's important to design stuff in different ways, because there are some things you only learn when approaching a problem from particular angles.
