My latest "Throwback Thursday" offering was taken quite recently in midtown Manhattan, when I had returned to New York City (for the first time in over twenty years)...
Needless to say, I visited Times Square - which had underwent changes too numerous to go into. Most prominent were a variety of characters in crudely designed costumes (of 'Mickey Mouse', 'Winnie the Pooh', 'Tigger', 'Spider-Man', 'Elmo', et al) - walking on Broadway, in the hope of earning some money, having their picture taken with the tourists!
But there were two costumed characters in the area that were new, unique, and totally real! Each 'fursuit' represented the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, Gangwon, South Korea (which will take place in next March). One of them was a white tiger named Soohorang (the mascot of the Winter Olympics), and the other (featured in this photo-op) was a black Asian bear named Bandabi (the mascot of the Winter Paralympics).
I'd used my disposable camera to catch a moment with Bandabi, posing with a tourist who (using his digital camera) wanted a 'selfie' of the two of them...
BTW, you don't have to wait until next year to see the mascots at their respective Winter Games. You can watch a series of CGI shorts with Bandabi and/or Soohorang on YouTube...
