So earlier in the week we went to a zoo nearby me - Colchester Zoo - with some friends. Hadn't been before, but I heard they had 'yenas so I really wanted to go. Very few zoos in the UK have yenas.
So we get upto the enclosure and they have all the signs around the place, and my eye caught a familiar flash of colour and I thought..huh. Got up close. And my jaw dropped.
MY art on the sign at the zoo. Wowwwww. What. Two pieces of it from 04. I had no idea. Of all the artists out there to pick...my art! Just wow. I was incredulous. But very very flattered. :D
I lol'd at the one on the right being picked out because it's got earrings and a lip ring in. :P
Anyway, my shock aside, I DO *think* there might have been communication a long time ago asking about the possibility...but I didn't think it was that, and I didn't hear back so forgot about it totally. I am not annoyed and I would not dream of asking for payment from a charitable organisation for the use of the art. So no need to suggest asking them about that. :) I'm just immensely flattered and happy that it's on display!

Whoa, that's way cool, Korrok! I think they chose the one with earrings because it can be somewhat related to the African legends they talk about. They kept the signature, I see, so it's perfect.
I ain't surprised about those legends: hyenas are impressive, and especially their laughs must have hit imaginations.

Too awesome! But, of course, you are such a good artist. I'm not surprised.
My mate took a photo of a giraffe at our zoo that was so well loved that, when he passed, they asked to use it on a memorial plaque. So, just like you, my mate is forever part of our zoo.

Absolutely unbelievable but amazingly cool at the same time. You should take the originals to the zoo and tell them you're the artist, see if they want you to do some other animals. They even picked two great pieces to display so you know someone has an appreciation not just of what you drew but your work as an artist.
Ok, is no one else bothered by the fact they never communicated back to you about actually USING it? Or (no offense to you, the artist) that a zoo would use an image where the animal has jewelry!?
That aside, it's cool to see your work somewhere public like that, but I hope they (and others) think it's ok if they send an email they can use an artists' work.

I was quite surprised at it being used after I'd not heard back about it. If it were a profitable organisation I would have been bothered but as it's a zoo...well...I'm not too worried. If they were in any way making money from it I would be annoyed. And I admit, I would have liked some more credit than just "K06" being left on it.
But yeah, again, it's not worth getting too up in arms about to me. :)

I guess, if you're cool with it...however, it could be a problem LATER...you'll never know if they'd get requests or asked about the artist and where that would go... I have encountered some people (and others have too!) in organizations that ask to use a piece for one thing - then behind your back use it for others not specified (ie, profitable items)
My illustration prof had a company he had sent portfolio images to not contact him about using his work but when he walked into the store - it was everywhere. He managed to sue but lost a ton of money. Playboy did something similar to an artist they had once, too - so while it's ok you're ok with it - that Zoo should be reminded (at least for the rest of us) that that sort of "take" behavior isn't always appreciated, and for a professional organization they should be way more (legally) careful!
