Pomona- Character Influence Chart
My Drawing of Princess Peacock comes from here> http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23786699/
Ah so figure I do this for myself and others who are curious as to how I come up or where I pull from my character designs. It also shows what I hope to achieve with my ideas by being able to recapture the spirit of other creations.
It's weird to put a lot of thought into a princess who isn't going to show up as much as the main cast, but there has to be a reason you're going to rescue her. At 1st glance you wouldn't think she needs saving: the media paints it that she lives safely and happily in her palace, locked away from all those criminals and monsters who'd want to hurt her. There isn't a representation of Rapunzel that best fits her, but she is surely locked up against her will as a prize, and not a person. She's been turned into a goddess to her people and is seen like the Virgin Mary.
She wants nothing to with that image of herself. She'd rather be like Jwwow and Snooky; a reckless girl about town, ditching the fine dresses and upscale living to favor a down to earth lifestyle. She enjoys dark and obtuse things, as she's well educated. She enjoys studying anatomy, chemistry, ethnobotany, Entomology, abstract poetry and anything strange and unusual she can get information on (like Lydia Deets and Beret Girl). For as smart as she is she appears to be brainless, cannot give any sort of reaction other then yes or no, but she's had such limited interaction with real people, it's no wonder she looks like a space case (Osaka).
To really capture her beauty I looked at a lot of Russian cartoons, who paint their maidens slowly and with blue, like from Cinderella and the Little Mermaid. Like 1920s beauty Madge Bellamy, her silence only accentuates her timidness and insecurity of being a woman. Being forced to remain emotionless for 30 years, she's got apathy for most people. She's been trained and drained down, very similar to Hilda from Link Between Worlds, and could easily go rouge if given the chance.
She fits a cliche princess in distress role, but the closest one that is like her is Rosalina because of how mysterious she is. She really wants the best for her people and while she does not how to govern them the way they need to be, she hopes to one day be able to learn and care for them.
