Crash is a male peregrine at our center, and boy does he love to talk when you get him on the glove.
He has quite the story, too. He's a wild bird that came in after flying into the side of a boat, broke his leg. So the vet pinned the leg, we got him going and fit again after a year of work with him, and let him free. A short while later he had decided to land on a hydro line... and electrocuted himself. So back with us he came! Then he had a run in with a female peregrine that didnt like him so much, and in that tussle he gained a scar on his right cheek, and a permanently dislocated talon. So, being unreleasable now with the injury to his foot, we keep him around. He's the sweetest bird, so nice to work with, thogh very noisy indeed!

I do believe that is the strangest thing Ive ever heard said about him.
Meant to die? So you believe his fate in this world was simply that he should not exist any more? So then, does this mean that any person that breaks their leg a couple times, or has a couple car accidents, should be killed?
Natural selection is a process that keeps a species strong, and surviving, in the wild simply by the fact that the weak or susceptible individuals don't survive to pas on their genes. If a bird is born with a disformed wing, it wont live to procreate. If it's a sickly bird without the immunity to some diseases, likely it wont live to procreate and pass that disadvantage on.
To say that we are hindering natural selection by rehabilitating birds is kind of... ridiculous, in my opinion. Even without the fact that he's not going to be released back into the wild, giving care to any animal isn't hindering natural selection.
