Here's a cute photo of Cyclone at the St. Joe's Annual Picnic here in Louisville, KY. This is admittedly the first time I've ever been, and boy I didn't know what to expect! It was stuffed to the seams with people -- traffic was backed up quite a ways in all directions, and it was hard to find a spot to park (if you expect free parking I hope you brought your parking shoes because anything nearby is taken FAST!) All kinds of smiling faces were seen and I thoroughly enjoyed every high-five, fist-bump, handshake, hug, and photo I got to give. Unfortunately, as far as photos go, there wasn't much taking! This photo was snapped when I was almost on my way out, and so were the only two others that my handler got. But I enjoy the experience far too much to worry about photos anyways, haha.
As a volunteer at St. Joe's Children Home -- NOT Orphanage, which is why it's annoying that all the signs in the area that advertise the event say "St. Joseph's Orphanage" -- I was glad to get to the picnic just on time to see some of the residents (a.k.a. kids in the home) walking around and partaking in events. The kids were allowed some change, and got to go around and visit the booths, which were ridiculously priced at 10 cents or 25 cents! Considering this is the biggest moneymaking event of the year for the home I wasn't expecting those prices, but it was great to see. Booth prizes and food were donations, food trucks and businesses stopped by and donated their services, time and money were community efforts and events... everyone works together to make this profitable for the home, and it's awesome.
Do you know of anyone in need around you? They might be closer than you think, unfortunately. If you can't give time or money every month, maybe just a once-in-a-while trip to a picnic like this could change some lives ^^ It's really been good to me, heh
ALSO the date on our camera is obviously wrong, ignore the bottom right.
