On a forum I currently participate on someone put up a masquerade themed contest. The idea was not to have great art, but to design a costume that suits the character. Lets say your character is a coward. Their mask could be a mouse and there could be abstract lamb-shaped stitching on their costume. Loving the challenge I went off like a gunshot. xD This picture was done with prisma colored pencils and outlined with a .08 micron pen.

User Name: Shroxx
Character name: Neveah
Entry Title: Complexity
Explanation: I did this style of dress because (aside from the bright colors and intricate designs) could serve as traveling garb. Seeing as how Neveah has been around the block and back I figured this suited her well. I gave her cloak because most travelers have them, and also because it just looked pretty damn cool. x3
Mask: The mask itself is very intricate and twisted because it is a metaphor for Neveah's current sense of logic and justice. The three hoops branching out into the cool colored fin represents her sudden mood swings: hot and angry to cool and calculated. The green ribbons show her sickly side; not physical, but simply her pessimistic outlook on life and how nothing is as it really seems.
Necklace: This simple ribbon necklace shows that she is not entirely proud of her scars, and so by covering them it is also hiding her true self. The yellowish pink strand in the center of the ribbon represents the color of her scars; not exactly a very pleasing color to behold.
Cloak and brooch: The obsidian brooch is how Neveah sees her heart; cold, dark, lifeless. From this thing comes the essence of life: blood. Not her blood, however. The cloak represents the blood of wolves she's essentially helped kill during her time in the gypsy camp. It forms a train behind her serving as their bodies being dragged behind her; or so how she sees it anyways.
Corset/sleeves: This represents Neveah before she was taken to the man camps and when she was just fresh in the camp. She was a very warm person, hence the yellow and orange stripes, but she also had a darker side; hence for the black. The brooch here serves as an abstract butterfly; darkening and becoming twisted as her friends began to disperse within the lands/disappear entirely. The lace shows how she was unsure when it came to making decisions; wavering back and forth before finally settling. The sleeves also show that she was a cool person; not as in awesome, but rather laid back and at ease with her fellow wolves. The red shows her first entry in the man camp: bright and loud is how she was, and it also represents her first bit of true pain when they carved into her flesh.
Gloves/black swirls: While she is not entirely proud of her scars she cannot help but admire their twisted beauty. The black markings show how she views the scars or what she thinks they should be; elegant.
Beads and dangling gems: The yellow beads represent the wolves she knew and no longer sees. The green represent the more important members while the large black one is reserved for Tsuke; dead to her even if he does show his sorry hide back at her den.
White layer of skirt: This represents the metaphorical wings she was given in many of her role plays as the "social butterfly." With their curved and almost tattered-like edges it shows that she has fallen from grace, but there might be hope for her yet considering they remain white; untainted by black smears of sin.
Green layer of skirt: This layer represents her current "humor" side of her personality. It is tainted with sin, and therefore is seen by others as a very dark and sarcastic.
Blue layer of skirt: This is what is left of "Shroxx" before she became Neveah. It's dull, not as vibrant as before, but it's there: a constant reminder of her former life and friends.
Red/yellow layer: Neveah does not believe she will ever reach a "paradise" when she dies. This shows the flames eating at her; swallowing her whole and consuming her dark soul. It also serves as something akin to the Phoenix; a chance to be reborn and do things right. A fresh start for this scarred and mentally broken she-wolf.
