The main issue I can see with an 'illicit' unit would be the risk of badges getting destroyed by a poorly-maintained machine or use of sub-standard materials, or perhaps price gouging or under-selling the legit folks.

individuals in the ARtist alley were not allowed to use the power outlets. So they thought someone had plugged one in when they weren't allowed to.

Wolfpac was a good sport about it - they all were. Seriously, though, I loved working Artists Alley this year. It was great! (Thanks, Fox - this is awesome!)
