Well this is a shot of my photography accessories thus far. Some of it came packaged with the camera itself but i have bought:
Filter pack - Centre shot (3x filters) which I'm learning how to use hehe
Memory Cards - I know I've got alot but can never have too much storage!
Joby Mini Tripod - Surprisingly strong and will hold my camera steady!
Remote Control - A bargain I found online (Cost £4 plus shipping!) Also able to take night shots (star trail photography which i've wanted to do for a while)
Rocket Blower - An essential and one i've used alot of times
Lens Cloths - Cost a bit more than I would have liked but are of high quality!
USB Card Reader - So I can read the CF cards with my laptop
So leaves the lens hoods, and the lens on the right.. those came with the camera, and the weird brush thing? .. well that came with my hair clippers i bought last week but i kept the brush to clean the body of the camera :P Thats all my gear heh, and i bet in 6 months from now i'll have more heheh

i own a larger tripod but couldn't get it in the shot, its a full sized one - pretty lightweight aswell, bought it in America last year for $60 and its serving its purpose well, i'm just looking forward to the autumn and winter season so i can get out and do some decent night shots .. am gonna do some star trail photography and get some good shots of the moon, i known people who own waaaay more than what i do, but as you said i have everything i need so i don't think i'll bother getting much more, although ... a couple of spare batteries might be next i think for when i'm out and about on a full day of photography (i have two but i think a 3rd will be useful)
its all down to the choice of the guy/girl behind the camera, i personally chose the Sony as i've had 2 other normal digital camera's both cybershots and was pleased with the results .. i mean people can argue all day long about which one is better but at the end of the day its users choice :) mine was the Sony .. besides i have big paws and the canon and nikons didn't sit comfortably in my hands so i chose the Sony for that mainly :) but as you can see from my photo's the quality is there even if i am still learning lol!. But since your GF is obsessed with Canon you'll have to get a Canon :P
