I'm guessing that he died.
He didn't disappear, those shadows coming from his back are really wings
he became angel...but not a happy one. An angel of death forced to take the spirits of
others when their lives come to an end.

The other feature i love of your works is the lighting on the characters faces... is so complex to me and detailed... i would be too lazy for that...
Here we have an amazed and puzzled expression at the same time... he seems not scared to me though, am i right?
