Rea and Magnus
More bat stuff, and still more to come. I really am having fun designing these guys.
These two are Rea Vampyrum and Magnus Spearwing the (mostly) proud parents of Rico. He's definitely taking more after his father when it comes to appearance, but he got his mother's impulsive and reckless personality.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out my vampyrum color palette, most other species seem to have a certain set color scheme, but vampyrum are just friggin painting with all the bloody colors of the wind.
As for how these two got together, funny story really. As I mentioned before spearwings are supposed to be quite brutal and ferocious, that didn't really work out for Magnus, he was always a rather shy and docile individual, even a bit of a coward, and thus he was not well liked in his colony. They saw him as weak in body as well as spirit, he was the local pushover. So one night he just couldn't handle it anymore and Magnus deserted during one of his scouting rounds, knowing they expected him to get killed out there anyway. He wandered for the next few nights until he unknowingly ended up in vampyrum territory and was soon hunted down by Rea. He accepted his fate at that point yet surprisingly that saved him, he was so pathetic that Rea couldn't bring herself to kill him, she's a bat of honor and wants a good clean fight. So she declared she would train him until he becomes a worthy enough opponent. Most bats would use that chance to book it, but since Magnus had nowhere really to go he thought he might as well stay and die fighting a vampyrum, at least earn some sort of honor. By the time his training was complete the two had socialized and grown rather fond of each other, thus Rea was unable to deal the finishing blow, she gave Magnus the chance to run, but he wanted to stay. Rea was the first bat he would consider a friend, which says a lot given that she did intend to eat him at some point. Rea has also grown surprisingly protective of the shorter male and was happy he wanted to stay close to her. A relationship was inevitable at that point, yet explaining the situation to the other vampyrum was a whole new dilemma, but more to that another time.
