I know a few people who are struggling with weight loss, so I thought I'd offer a brief look at my philosophy in dieting (not including "if I want it, I have to cook it"). If anyone would like me to go into more detail into this stuff in the future, I wouldn't mind setting up a blog!

Yes, you're correct! 900 is an extremely low number. In a scarcity or weight loss situation, 900 calories is the absolute baseline required to properly fuel an adult human body. For people who want to lose weight, the less calories you have in a day, the quicker you will lose weight. The minimum is also useful to establish for people with eating disorders, depression, or even people with flu or a stomach virus. It is FAR safer to have a goal of 1200-1600 calories every day, but everyone is different/ People who can't or don't have an active lifestyle will logically see better results with a lower number, and we want to prevent them from going TOO low.
The minimum calorie balance is also really important for people who have a lot of physical activity in a day. I know a person with an active job who was also going to the gym. I looked at his fitbit one day and it turns out that he hadn't been eating to compensate for his activity level. He was literally starving himself because he didn't have a good sense of what his body needed to be properly fueled.
So that's why I focused on a minimum rather than a healthier goal. There are just way too many variables from person to person to give perfect advice, and I can only fit so much text into these panels. :(
Thank you very much for having a conversation! I love discussions.
