Succubats can have some unique interactions with other forms of mental manipulation. The succubat creates a need to help the hive, akin to hunger or the need some people feel to be clean. Anything short of total erasure of the subject's free will leaves room for the succubat's influence on the host.

This can cause issues when the two directly conflict, but a belief that the hives are bad and must be fought is a normal obstacle for succubats to overcome. As long as the orders don't conflict, many enchantresses, mad scientists, and other ne'er do wells looking to manipulate malleable minds are glad to have such strong and able workers, despite the occasional breaks to help their hives
