Hey guys, it's the 3rd one and probably one of my personal favorites out of the line.
Let's get to it!
Rocky Patel Vintage 1990:
Wrapper: Honduran Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Dominican and Nicaraguan
Pre-Light/Construction:
This little box press nice and suave from the box. The red and gold band added a nice and royal look. Wrapper was nice and oily and a bit toothy to the touch. The seems and veins were tightly gripped together giving it a prestige look and feel. The scent was sweet and cedary. The pre-draw was a bit snug, but will loosen up by the first few puffs.
The Burn Part 1:
The first few puffs were zesty in cedar and spice. More mellow tone in level. Soon after a couple more puffs, there were medium semi sweet cocoa notes to envelope. This was a very very mellow sweet and spicy combo to begin with. Much more than alot of other combos. The retro hale gave a bit of natural tobacco notes. Tasted a bit aged. Hence the 12 years I hope. XD
The Burn Part 2:
As the puffs go down, the body is starting to build up a little bit, but not much for discomfort. The pepper notes were still the same along with the cedar as well. The cedar however began to subside a bit. More natural tobacco notes and a bit of leather began to envelope. Still the medium mellow body was the only thing keeping this in my favorites list.
The Burn Final:
As the stick is coming to it's end, I gave it a bit of a purge, the roasty notes started to come and give that near end taste. The cedar turned a bit darker and more oaky. The pepper notes have just about disappeared at this point. The cocoa notes have dwindled down a bit. A bit more body build up before the last few puffs ending with the cold draw. I put in the ashtray with a smile and a sip of my red wine.
Verdict:
Simple, clean, and not too complex for any pallet. Probably a stick for any person of cigars with either a simple or refined taste. It's still to this very day one of my personal favorites of not only Rocky Patel, but the cigar world. If you could, I'd recommend you buy a box for it as well. :3
