I asked an amusement park if I could take photos at the park and shockingly, THEY SAID YES.
This is one of my favorite photos that we took.
I don't post photos very often since I want my focus to be mainly on artwork, but since my friend and I made these cosplays I wanted to post a photo of them!
I'll be wearing this at Matsuricon (but can't bring my pod with me, sadly) so if you see a 9S wandering around on Friday it might be me! I know there might be at least one more 9S cosplayer. But my costume is handmade so it looks a little different from ones purchased on eBay!

About the Cosplay:
These cosplays were made back in 2016, shortly after the E3 trailers announced the game Nier: Automata. as such we had maybe only 2-3 trailers to work from and very little reference outside of low-res concept art and screenshots from the game's trailers while in production. As such our outfits aren't 100% accurate, but we're super proud of them regardless. We did manage to win fist place in a cosplay contest earlier this month so all our hard work really paid off.
When we wore them to a con back in 2016, no one knew who the heck we were since the game wasn't even out yet. But now that the game has been released and grown substantially in terms of popularity, I went ahead and polished up the details of my costume to make it closer to what is seen in-game and it's looking 100x better than it did last year. Normally I purchase my cosplays online (but that wasn't an option back in 2016) so this is the first one I've ever sewn 100% from scratch before. And my first attempt at sewing honestly.
2B helped me with my bag, and provided the material we used for our masks/blindfolds
About the 9S Outfit:
My outfit is sewn in the same material typically used for mens suits, with velvet for the collar. It's modified from a Matrix costume coat pattern.
The buttons were made from plastic rings and popsicle sticks I cut into a rectangular shape, glued together, spray painted gold and hand stitched onto the coat and shorts.
The white stitching on the collar is done using embroidery floss.
The design on the bottom of the coat was one of the trickiest parts, I had to trace a screenshot of 9S from the trailer and photoshop the snot out of that until it laid out "flat", traced over that, printed it and cut it out into a stencil, then drew the design onto the fabric with a paint marker. (I went through 6 of those suckers)
I purchased the gloves from an eBay seller, so that's the only part I didn't make.
About the 2B outfit:
My friend is insane and she sewed the entire thing with no pattern. idfk how she does it. She worked her butt off on that thing, the design is embroidered on (unlike mine which is just drawn on) and he dress has a white lining on the underside. I don't know much else about it since I didn't sew it but she worked on it like crazy. Even her boots are modified.
About the Blindfolds:
A lot of people ask if we can see out of them, and YES! WE CAN! It's like looking through black mesh on a screen door. Things can be a little trickier to read, especially in smaller fonts, and details are somewhat blurred but we can see easily enough to navigate in a convention setting.
2B needs to hold onto 9S's arm because atop the slightly impaired vision, she's wearing heels. But otherwise we can navigate and interact with others pretty easily. Most people think we're totally blind when we're not. It's pretty hilarious, honestly.
About the Pods:
I made the pods entirely out of a lightweight, but sturdy cardstock paper with a bit of clothesline wire covered in a craft mesh tubing of sorts for the arms. They are suspended on clothing hangar wire.
2B's is mounted onto her swords, 9S's is a much longer wire that goes down the length of my back against my spine, stopping a bit past the waistband of the shorts (sitting with it is kind of a pain)

Here we'll be opening an etsy store to sell buttons, keychains and more. Hopefully we can do custom button commissions too.
