This is the doodle I'm the most happy about, I love how it turned out. It wasn't even gonna be more than a fighting expression, but I just kept doodling and thought of a scene that actually happens for my character, being what he is and all.
I didn't fix the ear length because it was running into my other sketch anyway.... and his neck is also too long because I drew his neck full length then added the scarf's length to it by mistake.... oh well. That's why it's practice. That might end up being his neck length anyway.
Short story time, yaaaaaay! *dance about* Er, uh... here.
By the way, I realize that Matriarch is specifically a female clan leader and Patriarch is specifically a male clan leader, but I needed to differentiate between the enclave's leader and the other Patriarchs I see as their council of sorts... so for now, I'm just using the term "Matriarch" to mean the enclave's leader.
When you're the "Matriarch" of your enclave, it's kinda your job to look out for your clan. When you're also a more well-trained fighter than your own guards, well.... guess you gotta get in there and show them how it's done. A large beast thing (I imagine some kind of very large boar) is attacking the enclave. The few hunters and guards in this small enclave try to fend off the beast, but its size poses a problem for the frail little fighters and their lack of skills to fight such a beast, and their spear jabs are only making it angrier.
All the noise wakes their "Matriarch", and he steps out to see "what zhe hell is going on". He sees his hurt kin trying to get away from the beast, and the guards doing a poor job protecting the enclave. With a sigh, he thinks "Ughhh, damnit, do I have to do everyzhing myself?" He grabs a spear and starts toward the beast, but the guards step in front of him to try to keep him from danger. "Do not worry, 'Matriarch', we will keep you safe!" Well, at least they know well enough to do that... but now they're just getting in the way. With a grumble, he pushes them aside, gives them a very stern look and says "Leave. NOW." Turning back towards the beast, "I will handle zhis." The guards know not to upset their "Matriarch", so they step aside, and he shows them how to handle it. Again. Though this will be the first time they really get to see their "Matriarch's" full fighting ability.
Such is the uh.... um.... life... of being "Matriarch"... to a bunch of aloof silly things... he's gonna need a bucket of clams before this day's out.
This doodle shows something about my character that gives him some of his personality, and shows one of the main reasons why the Patriarchs in this small enclave decided to make him their "Matriarch" (leader), despite not being female. My character is very agile, having been taught quite well by... someone... when he was very young how to use his size and yinglety body to his advantage to be able to hop around and dodge well. Not only is he pretty hard to hit with his size and agility, but with a weapon in hand, he's a real threat.
I really like this, I can see how he moves and fights in my head. Think Freya of Final Fantasy 9, she's still hands down my favorite FF character, and hell, she's practically a yinglet already. Note to self, draw yinglet Freya.
Fun fact: This idea spawned a yinglet game idea... wandering yinglet exploring a massive underground cavern. This was also drawn while listening to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2's Chasm Cave, as well as other PMD2 songs.
I was also listening to some FF9 music while writing this up. Bermecilets.... hah.
