Finally working on the prototype. This is for scaling and experimentation, so it's designed to be super cheap, rather than to be durable. If my viability tests work out, the next prototype will be made of a wireframe to test the mouth/blinking movements, and then it will be finished with quality foam and fleece.
I've never tried making a 3D model of my characters before, so this is going to be quite fun and interesting to build. I'm already liking it, and even if the puppet thing doesn't work out, this will be a great reference for future drawings.
Man, cutting and sanding polystyrene foam sure does make a mess! I toyed with the idea of making the prototype in papier mâché, but the drying time would have driven me crazy.

This prototype is just to get a grasp of the scale and shape of the puppet. I'm actually not too sure what to do with the cheeks just yet, but likely he will have stitched spikes on the cheeks, like Sonic plush toys, rather than fur.
Actually, Wac's HAIR has me most worried. I have no idea what that would look like in 3 dimensions.

Ever consider one of those hot-wire foam cutters?
A lot less mess. Some fumes maybe, but you can vent those out a window.
