Julia POV

“I’m home!” I shout out as I enter my home after another day from classes. I close the door excitedly behind me and immediately take off my shoes. I immediately walked from the entry corridor to the main living room and found nobody around. “Papa? Are you here?” I tried calling out. He didn’t answer so I tried calling again and there was still no answer. Getting impatient I opened the door to his room and didn't see him anywhere. His room was in its usual order so it didn’t seem he was in any rush or anything. He must’ve stepped out… I hope he wasn’t worried about me for being an hour later than normal.
Wait an hour? Aw crap! I hurried over to my room and saw the Digimon sitting on my bed cross legged. His eyes closed as if he was in deep concentration. I closed the door slowly and as softly as I possibly could so he wouldn’t notice me being late. As soon as the door clicked back into place the blue dog spoke with that cold tone he usually used when talking to me. “You’re late.”
“A-Am I?” I stammered. “My… watch must be slow…” I tried to find some kind of excuse for my tardiness. But Gaomon didn’t even open his eyes to look at me.
“You can’t keep being late.” Gaomon went on. “If you keep this up you’ll be in no condition to assist me on my mission as my partner.” I pouted at his remarks, but he didn’t look at me still. “And you shouldn’t be making that face or it’ll get stuck that way.”
I let out a heavy breath of frustration and defeat as I put my school bag down somewhere and flipped my hair. “Why does it matter if I have to be ready? Isn’t it important for you to be ready more than me?”
“I can’t be ready if you’re not.” He answered bluntly. “As I’ve told you, my comrades and I are depending on human partners. Everyone else’s partners will be ready for what’s to come.”
“What is this mission anyway?” I asked as I turned to face Gaomon. I was shocked as I saw his hands gripping his lap as his yellow-green eyes looked away from me. Gaomon didn’t say a word as he just looked lost in thought. “Gaomon?”
“It’s nothing.” He said as he closed his eyes again and regained his composure. “Now then, do you remember those breathing exercises?”
“Um… yeah.” I said as I sat in front of him on my knees. For a moment he looked distant. I guess I had to shrug it off. I couldn’t get my mind off of it as Gaomon guided me through the exercises. Just what was that look? It was like he was having a hard time remembering something, but Gaomon was always so tight lipped I could never figure him out. It had been a month since he came to me with a duty and it’s been nothing but him bossing me around and insisting it’s for something great and important. For something with such weight it seems pretty suspicious that he never once let me know, and understandably I was having my skepticism. When he said to stop I stood up and gave him a bit of an exasperated look.
“What’s with the face…?” Gaomon asked with shock. “This is hardly a workout, you know. Be glad I’m being nice.”
“About that… what is this for?” I asked flat out.
“Huh? I told you, it’s our duty to train.”
“And then what?” I was getting annoyed with his vagueness and wanted answers. “For a month you keep insisting that we do all this training and stuff but I can hardly understand why we’re doing all of this!”
“But-!” He tried arguing.
“I… I don’t wanna do this anymore!” I cried out.
“Miss Julia…” Gaomon said softly, but with surprise.
“It’s pointless…” I sighed while falling to my knees with exhaustion. My head was sunken low with defeat. That was until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw the blue dog Digimon with a solemn look on his face. “Huh…?”
“Forgive me, Miss Julia.” Gaomon said with his voice still as composed as ever. But there was a certain sincerity to his voice that I hadn’t heard before. “It seems I’ve rested a burden on you so suddenly without ever showing faith or trust in you, when you have been nothing but trusting of me.”
“I…”
“To be frank I’m worried how you’d react if I told you if you weren’t ready to face it head on.” The Digimon went on. “So I kept it from you…”
“Gao…”
“Please, excuse my rashness in asking for your assistance. I had… felt something between us…” I gasped in embarrassment and surprise. What was this!? A confession!? “As if we’re supposed to cooperate together, Miss Julia.” Aaaaaaand there it was. “But if this is too much of a burden then it should be my cross to bear.”
“…iot…” I muttered.
“Excuse me?” Gaomon asked surprised.
“Gao… you’re an idiot.” I told him with a stern tone and expression. He looked at me wide eyed and a slightly gaped maw. “You don’t need to shoulder anything alone. You just said yourself what you should do.”
“I…” Gaomon was speechless.
“I don’t care how bad it is… and you don’t need to go into every detail there is. Just what you need me to know. Put some faith in me after all…”
“You’re right…” The dog said. “I can be an idiot for not realizing what’s in front of me.”
“So, are you gonna tell me?”
“Just what I feel is necessary… are you sure you’re ready to hear what I’ve been sent here to do?”
I gave him a hug and smiled widely. “Please, just anything to finally know! Gao, let me help in any way I can.” This Digimon may be stubborn, and act like an old man at times. He may be cold and unforgiving sometimes, and even a little callous. But he’s always been on my side, he’s patient and actually listens to me. I could never stay mad at him.
He released from my embrace and nodded. “Alright…” Gaomon took a deep breath and began talking. “The world I come from is a place that has become divided by a Society of evil Digimon. And in order to bring the peace back to my home, I must get stronger with a human partner and find the one who bears a stigma…”
“A…stigma?” I asked.
“A stigma of some kind. It’s a blemish of sorts that looks like a tattoo. It should be on the shoulder of the Digimon I’m supposed to follow… as for who that is… that’s where I need you.”
“Alright… let’s work together then! We’ll get you home and find your friend!”
“He’s hardly… ah… never mind. Let’s do it Miss Julia!”
