Both of these are the same car, in two different scales. The real car was driven by Harrison Ford in "American Grafitti," and was rented from the owner for the purpose. The smaller of the two is 1/24. That is, every half inch on the model's scale is equal a foot on ours. The body was metal, but most of the rest plastic, and it had to be assembled. I forget who made the kit, but as it was prepainted it came together beautifully.
The larger is a 1/18 die-cast, half again as large. Their are some interesting small differences in detail, but not many. the maker, Motor Max, releases American classics under the name American Grafitti, for reasons quite beyond me... ahem. On the larger car, both doors open, and the front wheels are steerable from the wheel inside.

Ah. They were overpriced as I recall, but Zeller's had them marked down to $10 once, along with the white T-Bird. I bought both. The black Chevy might have been on sale too, but it was just a black chevy. I didn't know what might be under the hood or anything else to make it special.
I never owned a car, but can drive, and certainly understand the mystique. (Even a little of the language.) I just ordered a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, the 440 c.i. version in lime green with black hood. And another car, a 1959 Buick Electra 225 convertible in lavender. They were relatively cheap on that website, and buying two splits the shipping costs.
