A no-so-normal job for a not-so-normal bank.
Whew! These stories just keep getting longer and longer don't they! That's a good thing, I think? Had a slow start with this one, but once the ball began to roll, it just kept going! I just wasn't all to sure how I wanted to end it. I like how this one turned out though!

“Here’s your withdrawal, sir. 600 gold exactly. Thank you for your service, we hope to see you again!” Archie happily bit the customer a good day as they left. The fox then waved over at the waiting line. “Next customer please!”
Archie runs a bank he founded called “The Dragon’s Hoard”. It was a fairly recent business that he had come into and the bank was a little well known, but for reasons other than being successful. The main building of the bank was pretty small, a standard size for anyone looking to start a business. What stood out about the place however, was the exceedingly large warehouse attached to the back that loomed a couple stories higher over the main building. The general consensus was that was where all the gold is stored, but was seen as unconventional compared to a simple vault. “Such a large building can’t be for just storing gold!” most would say. No one had ever found out what exactly is back there though, as the back door connecting the buildings was locked, and Archie was the one who had the key.
Even more questions would arise when they see that Archie is the only one running the place. Any other bank would have multiple employees cover everything from money-handling to security. The fox was the only one apparent they saw working the desk. The multiple mysteries surrounding the bank is what drew most of its customers in.
“Welcome To the Dragon’s Hoard! What can I do for you today?” Archie greeted the next customer, a deer who was carrying a large sack. He plopped it down onto the counter, a clinking of coins sounding from within.
“Yes, I’d like to make a deposit of 30 thousand gold.” The deer said.
“Certainly. I’ll take that off your hands.” Archie dragged the bag off the counter, bringing it to the back wall. He placed it in a spacious hole, then knocked on it twice. A few seconds later, the compartment spun around, taking the bag with it. “There you go, safely stored! Anything else today?”
“Uh, n-no, that’s it.” Said the deer, backing away.
No matter how many times they see it, it never fails to surprise those who use the bank. Archie does this whenever large sums of gold are involved. In the case of a withdrawal, the fox simply writes a note with the desired amount, sends it through the compartment, and a minute or so later the exact amount would come through. They thought there had to be someone else working in the back room. There was no other explanation possible. However, no one ever saw this person because once again, only Archie was allowed to enter the back room, and even after closing times, no one other than Archie was seen leaving the building. The more furs talked about the bank, the more they were inclined to check the place out, allowing his business to sustain itself.
Archie continued his usual routine of managing deposits and withdrawals until closing time came around. The sun was coming to meet the horizon, letting the fox know it was time to start wrapping it up.
“Alright, time to see how the big guy’s doing.” Archie said to himself. Checking again to see no one was around, He unlocked the door to the other building and walked through.
The connected building was a wide open space, comparable in size to that of a stadium. For a vault, Archine honestly thought it was too much. The fox wouldn’t have ever gotten this space if it wasn’t for his much larger business partner occupying it.
Sitting towards the front of the room was a gigantic feral dragon. Archie’s average stature was utterly dwarfed by it at around 40 feet tall and almost twice as long. It’s body was adorned with golden scales that shimmered in the light. Its underside was likewise colored a shade of gold, exuding an air of power and wealth. Though mostly having a strong musculature in its limbs, the dragon exhibited a chubby form. A thin layer of fat covered its body, mostly centered around its belly, which rounded out nicely.
“Great work today, Kalian!” Archie said, approaching.
“Oh good, it’s over.” The dragon sighed in relief. Kalian is the co-founder of The Dragon’s Hoard along with Archie. While the fox works the front desk of the bank, he is the one who does the actual handling of money. “So, does that mean I can store this all now?” Kalian pointed to a pile of bags of various amounts of gold in front of him. These were the day’s deposits.
“Oh, you saved them until the end this time?” Archie asked.
“Yeah, it puts a lot less strain on me if I use deposited gold instead of what’s already stored.” Kalian explained. “Plus it keeps me motivated finish my work, if it means I can have all of this...” he trailed off, staring at the pile with a needy look.
“Well it’s a good thing our customers make more deposits than they do withdrawals!” Archie said. “Let’s see...today there was about 435 thousand gold withdrawn, and about 1.2 million deposited. We’ve gone up almost 800 thousand!”
Kalian is a Treasure Dragon, a rare species known for being so obsessed with wealth that it’s reflected in their scales. Dragons by default enjoy building their own troves of valuables. Treasure Dragons take it to the logical extreme, desiring more riches without end, and for good reason. For Treasure Dragons, wealth is more than just a status symbol among their peers, but also as a symbol of strength. Dragons like Kalian draw power from the valuables they acquire. The more wealthy the dragon, the bigger and more powerful they become. In his own case, Kalian keeps his riches within his own body, which stores itself as fat. When taking his stored gold out, he secretes it through his scales, an action that feels uncomfortable to him, so he tries to avoid it when possible.
“C’mon, please? I’ve been waiting for this all day!” Kalian whined. Even for a dragon as big and powerful as he is, he does tend to act a bit childish, much to Archie’s amusement.
“Alright, Alright, you can store it now. We’re done for the day anyhow.”
Kalian wasted no time. The dragon scooped the various bags of gold up with his front legs. He dipped his head down and opened wide, shoveling all the bags into his mouth. All at once, Kalian swallowed the bags whole, storing them along with everything else in his insides. In reaction, his body appeared to grow slightly, putting on a couple inches in both height and width. “Mmmm, that always feels so good.” Kalian rumbled.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing you grow.” Archie said, taking a seat on one of Kalian’s large paws. “So adding together your own savings with what we’ve gotten today, how much money are we at now?”
“I think we’re sitting at about 32 million gold at the moment.” Kalian said, patting his belly. “Wish it would go faster than this, though...”
“The numbers are getting larger by the day.” Archie said. “You just have to be patient. Besides, you’d probably be saying that no matter how fast you were getting money.”
“You’ve got me there, little guy.” Kalian laughed. “I just wish we had some more customers with some real heft in their pockets.”
“You never know, with our increasing popularity we may get one eventually.” Archie assured.
The two chatted away casually until they heard a noise coming from the main building and quieted down. “...Hello? Is anyone there?” An unfamiliar voice called out. “I am in need of this bank’s services. It’s urgent!”
“We’re supposed to be closed now, aren’t we?” Kalian whispered to Archie
“Yes, but I didn’t lock the door before I came in.” Archie whispered back. “You sit tight, I’ll handle this.”
Archie dismounted and ran back to the door. As quickly as he could, he zipped through, closing it behind him, and not a moment too soon it seemed. The new arrival was right in front of the door, and looked like they were about to enter.
“Sorry, only employees are allowed back here.” Archie said, blocking the door. He took a moment to look over this surprise customer. It was a rather plump rabbit dressed in a plain brown cloak that obscured his outfit. He appeared to carry himself with a bit of dignity in spite of his appearance. “Also we’re actually closed at this hour, but I can make an exception this time. So, what can I help you with?”
“Well...” The rabbit looked around nervously, as if checking to see if he had been followed. “I’ve got a problem, and a big one at that.”
“How so?” Archie asked.
“Well, first I should tell you about who I am.” After cautiously looking around once more, the rabbit removed his cloak, revealing a gaudy uniform, one that Archie recognized as fitting for one of royal lineage. “My name is Prince Cedric III, heir to the throne of the kingdom of Grandir. I’m sure you must have heard of me somewhere...”
“Y-yes, but of course! Please excuse my rudeness, Your Highness!” Archie said, kneeling. Being visited by royalty was not something he had ever expected.
“And this is why I don’t reveal myself in public...” Cedric muttered to himself. “There’s no need for that, sir. Just treat me like you would any customer. It’s quite all right.
“I-If you say so.” Archie replied, getting up. “Now if you don’t mind me asking, what would someone of your status be doing way out here?”
“That’s what I came here to talk about.” Cedric said. “You see, I’m currently being hounded by thieves.”
“Thieves?”
“Yes. They call themselves the Bandle Bandits. For the past month this dastardly trio has raided my residence, pillaging my fortunes at any chance they get, and I fear they won’t stop until I'm left with even a single gold coin.”
“So where does the bank factor in?” Archie asked.
“I was getting to that.” Cedric replied. “I had heard rumors about your bank and all the mysteries surrounding it. Above all of that, was the assurance of a secure storage.” Archie had heard some of these whisperings before, and they did hold true. After all, no one would be able to steal anything with a dragon guarding the place, though its not like the bank was popular enough for there to be any attempts made yet.
“So you want to leave your riches here in hopes that it will be safe against these bandits?” Archie asked.
“That’s the plan. The only problem is the bandits themselves.” Cedric said. “They’re sure to find out that all my money is being stored here one way or another, and when that happens they’re going to come after this place to steal it. I;m worried about putting you and your bank at risk like that.”
“Oh, I’m sure there’s going to be nothing to worry about there.” Archie said. “The security of this bank is of the highest quality!”
“Really? Looking at the place, I’m starting to doubt it.” Cedric looked unsure.
“Trust me on this. Your fortune will be safe, and it’ll catch those thieves to boot!” Archie boasted. “So, how much are you going to be having the bank protect anyway?”
“Does that mean you’ll help me?” Cedric asked.
“Of course! If there’s anyone who can handle a job like this, its The Dragon’s Hoard!”
“Oh, wonderful!” Cedric’s eyes lit up, a weight lifted off his shoulders. “Now, about the amount in question...” The rabbit pulled out a scrap of paper, scribbling numbers down on it. “...this is how much I have left that needs guarding, and I’m prepared to pay a reward if you can pull it off.”
Archie stared at the paper for a second before his jaw dropped open. It was more money than he had ever seen in his life! He knew he would be dealing with big numbers when he went into running a bank, but he wasn’t expecting to get there so soon!
The two sat in silence for a moment, Archie’s mind still reeling. “Uh, are you alright?” Cedric asked. Archie snapped out of his daze shortly afterwards.
“Please, come this way.” Archie said, leading him the the back room. If they were going to do this, Cedric should know the whole story.
“Kalian, we’ve got a job!”
The darkened corridors of the city were silent, most of it’s inhabitants turned in for the night. Barely audible to anyone of average hearing, came the hushed footfalls of three hooded individuals. Swiftly but silently, they scurried across the alleyways, apporaching their intended target, The Dragon’s Hoard.
Slinking up to the front door, one of them picked the simple lock, opening the way for them to enter. Once safely inside, they removed the hoods to get a better look around The three figures were revealed to be a slim raven, a heavyset crocodile, and a diminuative raccoon.
“Heh heh, that Prince Cedric thinks he’s so clever, going to some no-name bank for protection.” The raccoon laughed. “But he can’t escape the reach of the Bandle Bandits that easily!”
“That lockpicking was just too easy!” The raven chuckled. “Does he want us to just rob him completely?”
“I dunno guys.” The crocodile worried. “Maybe its a setup.”
“Or.” The raccoon continued. “Maybe he just chose a poor bank to rely on! Talon, Razor, search the place!”
“Yes sir!”
The trio set to work scouring the room, finding nothing out of the ordinary. It all looked like a regular bank, but nothing that looked like a safe or a vault was anywhere in sight.
“Just what kind of bank is this?” Talon asked. “The security here is an absolute joke, not a camera to be seen. On top of that, there’s nothing here to steal! Bandle, are you sure this is the right place?”
“Of course I am!” Bandle replied. “I saw him leave the building before we started! It has to be here!”
“Uh, maybe its behind here...” Razor said, finding the entrance to the back room. “It says it’s an employee only area, and it’s locked.”
“Excellent! Let’s crack this safe open!” Bandle said.
“Way ahead of you.” Talon said, undoing the lock as fast as the first. “Child’s play.”
The three thieves quickly rushed inside. The room was completely pitch black, not much visibility available to them. They each struck a match, dimly lighting their surroundings.
“Now, let’s see what we’ve got...” Bandle said. “Spread out!” The trio went in separate directions, taking different parts of the room.
“Oh boy, oh boy! I can’t wait to see what’s left of the treasure!” Razor was getting excited, bounding forth through the darkness wrecklessly. With no regard for his surroundings, the crocodile crashed right into what he had assumed was a wall.
“Owww...what was that?” Razor got up from the floor, but stopped when a gleam of gold caught his eyes in the dim light. “Hey guys, I found something!” He declared.
“So did I!” Talon reported, a short distance away.
“I did too!” Bandle said. From where each of them were standing, they could see a giant mound of gold that loomed in front of them. “We’ve hit the jackpot, boys!”
“We’re gonna need multiple trips for this.” Talon said. “There’s just too much here for us to take at once.”
“Ehh, It’ll be fine, who’s going to stop us, anyway?” Bandle said. “After tonight, we’re going to live like kings!”
“I like the sound of that!” Talon agreed.
“...Uh...guys?”
“What are we even going to do with this much gold?” Talon mused. “I can’t even think about it!”
“Guys? Something’s not-“
“We probably don’t have to do anymore thieving for the rest of our lives!” Bandle pondered. “No having to rely on meager wages just to scrape by!”
“About the gold-“
“I could get an entire makeover! Start my life fresh, without worry!” Talon fantasized.
“Talon? Bandle? Hello?”
“We can say goodbye to this rotten life and be reborn as new people!” Bandle shouted.
“GUYS!” Razor finally got through to them, snapping them out of their daydreams.
“What’s the deal, Razor? Can’t you see we were dreaming about the future?” Talon snapped.
“Yeah, what could be so important that you can’t think about how great our lives are going to be?” Bandle asked.
“Because there’s not going to be a future if you don’t listen!” Razor retorted. “There’s something wrong about the gold!”
“What could be wrong with it? Gold is gold. We’re getting rich either way.” Talon said.
“Try touching it. It doesn’t feel right.” Razor said. Talon and Bandle did as they were told, pressing their fingers into it. Their faces were coated in shock at seeing what should have been a pile of gold squish under their touch.
“W-What in the...” Talon stuttered. “This doesn’t feel like gold at all! It’s all..soft.”
That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you!” Razor shouted. “This isn’t gold!”
“It looks just like it though.” Bandle said. “If it isn’t gold, then what is-“
“Oh, it’s real gold, all right...” A deep voice rumbled out from the darkness, scaring the trio. Instinctively they huddled together in defense.
“W-Who’s there!?” Bandle called out. They hadn’t heard anyone enter the room after them, so whoever this was must have already been inside.
“Show yourself!” Talon demanded.
“Aww man, I knew this was a trap!” Razor whined.
“Hold steady, boys!” Bandle commanded. “Doesn’t matter who they are, they don’t stand a chance against the three of us together!”
“Is that a challenge?” The voice asked. “If so, I would gladly take you up on that offer!” At that statement a few of the the lights in the room flickered on, blinding the trio briefly.
“Ha! Bring it on! We’re not scared...of....” Bandle trailed off as his vision became clear, revealing just who it was he was making threats to.
Sitting before them, atop an enormous mound of glittering golden scales, was the head of the largest dragon they had ever seen! it looked down upon them with a smug expression, amused at the three thieves’ panicked faces.
“Oh really? You look plenty scared to me.” Kalian responded. The Treasure Dragon had grown to enormous proportions, more than twice as tall as he was that evening. With over 800 million gold worth of valuables stored within his body, he towered over the pitiful pickpockets like a skyscraper.
More noticeable than his taller stature was just how much fatter he had grown. Numerous layers of fat coated the dragon’s body, softening the normally rough surface of his scales. His underside was so stuffed with flab that it pressed into the floor, dragging along even while standing up. It stretched out wide from his sides, weighing him down greatly. His legs were thicker than trees, paws padded with plentiful pudge. Rolls of back fat cascaded down his spine, making his wings look smaller. Even the dragon’s neck had thickened, making it slightly harder to move around. The dragon was chubby before, but now he was undeniably obese. At this point it was clear that he was too heavy to be able to fly anymore, but Kalian couldn’t care less about that. The wonderful feeling of all these riches within him was more than enough for him.
“D-D-D-Dragon!” Bandle managed to stammer out. “What happened to all the treasure!?”
“Oh, that? It’s all right here.” Kalian slapped his belly, making it jiggle in earnest. “You want it? You’ll have to go through me. Still think the three of you can take me on?”
Bandle shook himself out of his paralyzing fear to speak up again. “I-I’m not going to just give up now!” He said, brandishing a pair of throwing knives. “We’ve come too far to surrender to the likes of a fat tub of a dragon like you! Right boys!?” The raccoon tried to remain as composed as possible, but his knees still shook wildly.
“Uh, r-right.” Talon snapped out of his own frozen state. The raven revealed a bow that he had been carrying around, and brought it at the ready. “I’m with you all the way, boss!”
Razor didn’t respond, cowering on the floor with his head down. “Razor! Get a grip, ya big lug!” Bandle scolded. “Get up and show this blubber dragon that you’re ready to fight!”
Razor attempted to stand, his whole body trembling in the attempt. Reluctantly, the crocodile readied his battle axe, huddling close to the others for safety.
“Well then, since you all seem set on doing this, let’s have some fun, shall we?” Kalian said. The dragon lifted one of his giant paws, moving as if to stomp on them.
“Scatter!” Bandle shouted. They all dove clear of Kalian’s attack, switching to the offensive to gain some ground. Bandle started by chucking his knives at the dragon, but each one bounced off as harmlessly as the last. “Darn it, if range won’t work, then I’ll just carve you like a pumpkin instead!” The raccoon took a knife in each hand, and with a yell, he jumped up and plunged them into the dragon’s side. The knives struck true this time, but failed to actually break any skin. Kalian himself barely felt the attack. The dragon’s golden hide was far too thick to do any significant damage.
“You get an A for effort, but not good enough!” Kalian said. In retaliation, the dragon began to roll over onto his side. Bandle, realizing what was happening, was only able to mutter an “Oh crap” before the raccoon was enveloped by the tonnage of Kalian’s form. When the dragon righted himself, Bandle was left on the floor having passed out from the pressure. “One down.”
Kalian then felt something poke his face. He turned to see Talon firing arrows at him. Just like the knives before them though, they harmlessly bounced off his scales, too weak and too slow to pierce through.
“Better get some stronger arrows or better aim if you want to-woah!” Kalian jerked his head away from an arrow that nearly struck one of his eyes.
“How’s that for better aim?” Talon replied, drawing another arrow. “Keep your eyes on these arrow, because soon those eyes won’t be seeing anything anymore!” The raven fired a couple more shots, narrowly missing their target, but getting closer each time.
“I’ll admit, you’re pretty good, but your tactics still fall short!” Kalian flapped his burdened wings, sending a blast of air toward Talon. The gust disrupted his arrow’s path, flying uselessly away. The force of the blast knocked the raven off his feet, dazing him slightly. Kalian lifted a paw to finish the job, smothering Talon until he too fell unconscious. “That’s two.”
Kalian turned his attention to Razor, who was fearfully watching as his comrades were defeated one by one. He let out a squeal when the dragon gazed upon him, starting to make a dash for the door. “I can’t do this! I’m outta here!” The crocodile cried.
“Oh no, you’re not getting away that easily!” With great effort, Kalian lunged his mass forward, blocking off Razor’s escape route with one of his meaty legs.
“AAAAAHHH! NO, PLEASE! GO AWAY! DON’T COME ANY CLOSER!” Razor screamed, swinging his axe wildly with his eyes closed. The dragon smiled at this, picking the crocodile up and dangling him by the tail.
“Well aren’t you just adorable!” Kalian laughed, watching as Razor flailed about randomly in his grasp. The scared crocodile wriggled and squirmed for a couple of minutes before eventually collapsing from exhaustion. Gently, the dragon laid him down together with his cohorts. “And that makes three. We’re done here.”
“Never doubted you for a second.” From behind, Archie came around to examine the bandit trio. “And they look relatively unharmed. Good work, Kalian!”
“I would never let down such a well-paying customer.” Kalian replied. “Besides, they really didn’t stand a chance, so I thought playing with them would be more entertaining.”
“...Right. So, we should probably tell Prince Cedric about what happened....and contact the authorities to take care of these three.”
The next morning was met with a spike of activity. Word spread around like wildfire about the Bandle Bandits finally being brought into custody, and about the bank that was involved in their capture. When being taken away by the authorities, Bandle and his cohorts were said to be babbling about some kind of monster they had encountered in the bank. While most dismissed their ramblings as crazy talk, It only served to further advance the bank’s reputation. Business at The Dragon’s Hoard was booming for that day Archie was running the counter, and Kalian had ended that workday a couple million gold larger. Prince Cedric arrived to congratulate the two once closing hours had come by.
“Oh this is just wonderful!” Cedric said. “Those thieves are finally getting what’s coming to them, and all they’ve taken will be returned! I can’t thank you two enough for this!”
“Well, you did mention there being a reward...” Kalian suggested.
“Kalian, don’t be rude!” Archie chided, jabbing a finger into one of the dragon’s rolls.
“Hey, I won’t pass up on an opportunity to get paid.” Kalian retorted.
“You could learn to be a bit more humble, you know!” Archie shot back.
“Oh, it’s quite alright Archie.” Cedric cut in. “Besides, I do think I owe you two for everything.”
“Alright, this guy is speaking my language!” Kalian said, grinning.
“If you say so.” Archie complied.
“Now, regarding the gold I’ve put under your protection, I’ve decided that it would be good if it stayed under your care.”
“Awesome!” Kalian shouted.
“Are you sure?” Archie asked.
“Yes. I guess you can count me among your regular customers now.” Cedric said. “That’s not all though. I’m also prepared to give you this.” The rabbit dug through one of his pockets, producing a jewel as big as his hands to them. It glittered brightly in the light, appearing to be changing colors as they looked at it.
“I-Is that what I think it is?” Kalian was shocked.
“What? What is it?” Archie prodded.
“T-This....this is a Prism Diamond!” Kalian exclaimed.
“Correct.” Cedric confirmed. “An extremely rare jewel known for it’s ever-changing colors.”
“As a treasure fanatic I’d only ever heard of these in legend, but for you to be in possession of one so large, and for it to be in pristine condition...it’s beautiful.” The dragon was completely enamored with the rock, eyes locked onto them passionately.
“Wait, how valuable is one of these things?” Archie asked.
“More than what anyone is willing to pay for in coin!” Cedric declared. “A curator I went to nearly had a heart attack when I showed it to him. After I had gotten him to calm down, he had valued this stone at about 3.7 billion gold.
Archie’s eyes widened “B-B-B-Billion!?” he stammered. “Seriously? That’s insane! Why would you be giving something so valuable to us?”
“Oh c’mon, it’s not like it’s a family heirloom or anything. I just wanted to show my appreciation. I know for a fact that it’ll be safe with you guys, and your dragon friend certainly isn’t opposed to it.” They looked to Kalian, who was eyeing the diamond hungrily. Without any self restraint, he would have attacked the two of them just to get at it.
“C-C-Can I?” Kalian was trembling with excitement.
“Of course.” Cedric replied. “Go ahead.” The rabbit held out the diamond to Kalian. The dragon took it in one of his paws, basking in it’s radiance for just a moment longer. Then, he swallowed it down.
“You may need to step back.” Archie warned, retreating to the doorside wall. Cedric followed behind, reaching the fox’s side in time to see the Treasure Dragon’s hide shake violently.
Kalian grew rapidly, feet adding onto his height by the minute. His horns reached up to scrape against the ceiling of the room, forcing him to lay down for more clearance. His form lengthened, back legs and tail coming into contact with the back wall. The dragon was becoming massive!
While Kalian gradually stretched upwards, he expanded outwards even more quickly. The dragon’s weight skyrocketed, tons upon tons of flab packing onto his body. His gold flanks swelled greatly, spreading across the floor until they touched the side walls. His wings actively appeared to shrink against the rising fat rolls on his back. His tail was bloated to uselessness, so swaddled with fat it was difficult to move.
Kalian’s growing mass ate up space in the gigantic room, making i look much smaller than it was. The dragon’s increasingly blobby form rose up on the swell of his monstrous belly, scaly flesh riding up against the walls of the room. His neck appeared to be getting shorter, getting swallowed up in his billowing blubber. His legs were facing similar problems, the bases of them vanishing beneath swathes of golden lard.
Archie and Cedric stared in awe at the uncontrollably fattening dragon, taking note of the disappearing space left in the room. “Wow, I was wasn’t expecting this much of a reaction!” Cedric exclaimed.
“I knew he would be getting big, but this crazy!” Archie commented.
“He should be stopping soon...right?” Cedric asked, expressing concern over the room becoming cramped.
“Of course! Everything should be fine.” Archie declared. That certainty would quickly turn to doubt however as they watched a jiggling wall of golden flab slowly push forwards to meet them. There didn’t appear to be any foreseeable end, and the two were ready to bail if things got tight.
Just when Archie and Cedric feared that the dragon may actually outgrow the room, the growth stopped. The normally grey walls storage room was now occupied by a mountain of golden scales and flesh, wobbling and sloshing about like a tide pool. The dragon blob dominated nearly the entire building, only a few feet of floor space remaining before reaching a steep incline of flab. Still visible on his front was his forelegs, stuffed with lard and almost as soft as his belly, but still operable to some extent. Close by was Kalian’s fattened head, cheeks puffy and round. Only a small stub of neck was left visibly supporting it. His eyes were closed in bliss, reveling in his newly acquired wealth.
“Mmmmm, Now this is paradise.” Kalian rumbled, purring deeply. “That diamond was no joke........do you have more?”
“Kalian!” Archie snapped at him.
“What? I’m just asking!” Kalian defended.
Cedric laughed. “Unfortunately I don’t, but even if I did, I don’t think the building could handle the next wave of growth.”
“You can say that again.” Archie agreed. “Though with how popular our bank is becoming now, Kalian will probably end up outgrowing the space eventually anyway.”
“So you’ll need to expand this space then, huh? I can help with that if you want. Wanna partner up?” Cedric offered.
“Really?” Archie asked. “But you’ve paid us back so much already.”
“Oh this is nothing.” Cedric said. “Besides, it wouldn’t do if the bank I’ve invested so much in is unable to operate.” The rabbit stretched out a paw. “What do you say?”
“In that case, your help would be appreciated!” Archie replied. “Any objections, Kalian?”
“As long as I can keep growing, I’m fine either way.” Kalian responded.
“Then it’s settled.” Archie joined paws with Cedric for a handshake.
“Pleasure doing business with you.”
