The helmet has tons of extrasensory gadgets, the scientists can use telepathy among each other, and to store secrets and stuff. They're very wise, but very frail, sometimes dumber than Grunts.
If hazardly shot in the head in a mission (or lose their heads) cybernetics take over their bodies and fires lasers in general directions for several moments, then the body enters a robotic auto-running mode, attacking intruders.
