Rachel Benton is the daughter of a folk music duo collectively known as The Dream Express (in fact her actual name is Rainbow, but she goes by her middle name as she thinks it ridiculous). Her parents toured constantly when she was younger, and she spent a lot of time moving around, often living in an RV or hippie commune. She saw most of the regions at a rather young age, and it has only been recently that her parents have met with some success, and done as a lot of "hippies" do late in life when success knocks on their door, namely settling down and enjoying their money, now that they have it.
Rachel has always been rather intelligent and studious with a lot of knowledge of the world, being much more grounded than her parents. Her experience of seeing so much of the world sparked an interest in doing more of such in the future, and she set her sights on the Ranger Corps. Though good at academics and having some knowledge of fighting (her parents would often tour through some less than reputable areas, and thought it wise to teach their daughter how to defend herself when peace and understanding failed) she passed on the Poke-Combat Academy in the past. However the new administration has opened up new programs in association with the Rangers, which prompted Rachel to put in for a transfer to the prestigious school. She scored very high on her academic tests and quite well on battle exams, and was admitted despite some eccentricities, which truthfully pale next to some of her classmates.
Rachel is a friendly and outgoing sort, though she can seem a bit spacey sometimes. While a lot might associate this with the simple-mindedness often associated with her species, the truth is that she's usually thinking of several things at once, so it seems like she isn't really thinking of anything at all since the world around her is usually not one of them. She seems to know a little bit about just about everything and is nothing if not resourceful. While her parents might (to her own admission) be a couple of addle-brained hippies, with her it's more just the look and mannerisms. As a new transfer she hasn't joined with any team, and while not actively looking to do so, isn't trying to avoid it either. Like everything else, she just takes that sort of thing in stride.
