I have another 'photo-op' taken in New York City, back on June 23, 2017 (following my reunion with
JoeStrike)...
On my way back (to connect with my brother Glenn), I came across an unusual sight located on Sixth Avenue (a.k.a. the Avenue of the Americas), between Times Square and Rockefeller Center. In front of the Fox News Network building was a statue of a very unlikely newsworthy subject: 'Bart Simpson' (of the long-running FOX-TV animated series "The Simpsons") in his infamous guise as 'Bartman'.
Having seen and heard stories about other TV characters made into statues (such as Jackie Gleason's bus driver 'Ralph Kramden' and Lucille Ball as 'Lucy Ricardo', to name but a few), I thought I'd use my disposable camera to take a picture of this unique work of art...
Now, originally, I wasn't going to post this particular 'photo-op' (as it's hardly animal-related for "Fur Affinity), but then, something occurred earlier on in August, 2017, that forced me to change my mind...
A scurmish broke out between white supremacists and protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia - in each one person was killed - over the potential taking down of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Since then, other statues of Civil War veterans and other Confederate Americans were also removed or altered.
In a speech, lashing out at all the participants of that tragic day, President Donald Trump argued, "Why stop there? What about statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (who were both 'slave owners' themselves)?"
This opened up the floodgates for late night talk show jokes and editorial cartoon gags about other statues that deserve to be taken down. (An example was a cartoon gag in the New York Daily News about folks taking down the lion statues in front of the NY Public Library. A protester complained, "We're against 'zebra killing'!")
And since President Trump believes that all the media specializes in is 'fake news' - especially the folks at Fox News Network - I'd thought that some white supremacists considered taking down the 'Bartman' statue. (After all, 'Bart Simpson' is yellow-skinned [though you couldn't tell by the bronze color of said statue]!) I hope that the statue can talk, and tell those vandals, "Eat my shorts!!"
