Seeing Yojanba the first time in your concept art a while back, I definitely dug her concept and design. But when I read all these pages and saw her actually in storytelling, I can totally say she's one of my favourite characters already!

This old woman should meet 'mean mother' of Nae, tell her a thing or too in how to allow the child to raise herself in such a complex world of levels of polite culture.
This is a world of a caste system of society, then feudal on top of that, then Anglicized to attempt to explain the genteel world of etiquette required versus barbarity while still being polite.
Still even Nipponese barbarians are nothing like the unwashed hairy vulgar barbarians that destroyed Rome (in waves through generations across a period of 600 years); like the Gauls, Vandals or Visigoths.
Even Nipponese Barbarians are more polite versus Western or Middle Eastern cruelty.
Though the Middle east taught Europeans how to destroy everything with insane abandon, burning books was stupidity at its height, as well as killing everybody to the last child!
At least China (after the first Emperor), and India, (the Mahabharata wars) stopped destroying everyone off the face of the Earth, too bad the Middle east has not discovered this fact and finally become civilized!!!
