The Darkness Continues
Lucile and Karasu would make their way out one of the tunnels as they converse. “Friends? I haven’t had friends in almost a decade.” Karasu scoffs. “It’s so easy when they think you’re evil.” she says, holding her staff at her side. “When you can create storms wherever you go, envelop yourself in darkness.” She looks to the fox, “I have no future among others, alone with my hoard is where I belong.”
Lucile rolls her eyes, “Hey, I like being alone too but you take it way too far. You don’t seem very happy about things!” Karasu growls, “I was perfectly happy. What do you know?” he snaps. The fox puts her paw onto her shoulder, “What do you even do? I don’t see a garden, art, do you just lay in that cave and push people away?”
“What’s it to you? A life of comfort is all I want.” The fox glares. “You’re a weird dragon with crazy magic powers and that’s what you want to do with it?! Where did a raven dragon even come from?” she taps her foot as the dragon answers, “My dad was a dragon and my mom was a raven.” he says bluntly. “Look, I fail at life. The only things I’m good at are worth nothing.”
The dragon quickens her pace, as they exit into the light, the village they had entered from in the distance above them to the left. “Let’s get on with it. If you’re not going to kill me then I want my body back. Lucille groans, “Why don’t you stop and bask in sun, or smell the roses?”. Karasu glares, “Because I’d rather darken the skies and raze the land.” she says coldly, after a few moments she takes a long sigh.
“Fine, the truth is I don’t want to be happy. I haven’t earned the right and if I have to change who I am, I’d rather have comfortable misery and die alone.” she says, “So the sooner we can get me back to the alone part the better.” Lucile facepaws, “Right, well as I said earlier the portal there...” she points.
“Is where a bunch of experts on transformation live, since you have the source in your hand you shouldn’t have much trouble, princess.” Karasu sighs, “Then let’s get going.” she says, a fierce gust of wind would send the fox flying into the portal, followed by the dragon. On the other side, they would enter into a courtyard, with four temples in each direction.
Karasu would immediately growl, “Here? Really?” Lucile would jump a bit at her behavior, “Uh… bad memories?” she questions, as the dragon nods. “Yeah, this is why I came to this part of the realms. The elders said it brings answers to dragons who… cant’ find their place.” he glares. “Look at the characters on the banners.” he commands.
The fox would nod reading the letters on the bannes of each temple, “Earth, Fire, Water, ...Light.” he would look around, squitning into the distance upward, and looking for another path. “Uh… where’s Wind? And darkness?” Karasu would nod, “Exactly what I thought. Guess I don’t get a happy ending huh?”
The fox sighs loudly, “So let’s find out why there is no temple for those two.” she says, but as she starts to walk a gust would surround them. “I asked that a decade ago. Wind is too unstable, Darkness is evil. What’s that make me?” he growls. “This place holds no answers for me.” He sighs, “But I’m sure I know which temple holds the key to undoing this transformation.” he says, the gale subsides as she proceeds to the temple with the Light banner.
The temple would be lit with candles and mirrors that reflect the sun, a blinding light which Karasu would give himself an aura of his darkness to cover himself in. “Gah, so bright… mind sharing that thing?” Lucile asks, and a similar one would surround her. “At least we can agree on something.”
Coming into the main room, they would see a rabbit with a white cloak, watering the plants and turning around upon their entrance. Lucile would step forward, having a bad feeling about the dragon doing any talking. “Hey! We need some curse removal for my uh… friend!” she asks, the rabbit would make her way over to them, looking at Karasu for a while, raising her hand and shining light upon her form, the aura disappearing as she does.
She would nod slowly, “I see a previous form, yes… though the item is much too foreign for our removal magic… we do have the ability to uncover the secrets to recovering that form.” she says with a smile. Karasu would groan, “Good enough for now at least.” Lucile says, as the rabbit “What do we have to do?” she smiles, “Well have a seat, and let’s get you some tea to rela-” she would eep as Karasu summons a gale.
“Er, let’s get right to it then, you should be able to handle the whiplash.” she says, “Put your hands into mine, dragon.” she says, “Fox, keep the staff in contact with her.” she commands, as Lucile does so. “Alright, now… focus on your old form now, and let the light uncover it.” she says, as Karasu closes her eyes, feeling magic enter through her hands as it happens.
A vision of her form, in a very familiar position, pushed back by wind and hidden by darkness… formed from her own memories. A light would pierce at points, as the shadow of her form evades, steadily growing, at times fading. “Are you… resisting?” she questions. Outside of the vision, the fox would see as Karasu’s body would shift slowly, recoiling in pain.
The rabbit would focus intently, as Karasu becomes more receptive. “There! Wait...” She would feel herself thrown back, as the dragon in front of her roars in pain, as his form returns. “Ah… Agh...” Her eyes would open wide, “You’re… Karasu!” she gasps. “M-mom told me about you, the… stories.” she gulps.
Karasu looks at her, “Yeah that’s me. The dragon with wings of storm, heart of ice as black as night.” Lucile would step between them. “Hey man, maybe people would like you more if-” Karasu would spread his wings.
“It was they who chose to see me that way! If evil is all they see, at least I succeed in proving them right.” he would fill the temple with darkness, and take to the skies, feeling the tug of the fox’s hand on his foot as he disappears into the sky, the rabbit seeing only them being gone afterward.
As he flies, he would try to shake the fox, “Ah, hey! Quit it!” she protests. “I’m done with you, I know how to turn back and forth, close enough for me.” Lucile groans, “I’m not done with you.” she says, striking at his wing with a blast of fire, sending them both plummetting into a dive, into a portal below them.
