In this case the arrow should be resting on the thumb of the bow hand, in line with the drawing hand.
Right handed shooters draw with the right hand and rest the arrow on the index finger of the bow hand, to the left of the bow. Left handed shooters draw with the left hand and rest the arrow on the thumb of the bow hand, also to the left of the bow. Stance for left handed shooters differs as well so that the arrow is in line with the drawing hand. Of course, I'm sure that some variations exist within the different traditions of archery...
