Greenpeace: Bee populations have been in decline for a decade. Just in 2016, the United States lost 44% of honey bee colonies -- a significant jump from the year before. Bees pollinate more than one hundred staple crop species including the fruits, nuts and vegetables that make up a third of your diet.
These bee deaths are unacceptable, but instead of gaining protection from threats like pesticide and habitat loss, bees are facing even more threats as the government goes after the Endangered Species Act and Environmental Protection Agency.
