Extraordinary encounter somewhere around the Bahamas.
Done in Paintchat with a mouse only - I shouldn't have outlined the creature but... Ah well. Still looks nice as a small-resized pic ! :)

Thaaaaankies Mav ^^ ^^ ^^ Glad to hear you like this kind of subject too...
Anyway, for some reasons I feel this particular encouter peaceful, despite the fact the thing is clearly carnivorous. No will to make the boat capsize, just some curiosity about it... And the thing goes away the most naturally possible.

Oshi- a Lipleurodon!! D: D:
Always bring a biologist with you when deep sea fishing * nodnod * You never know when you'll be eaten by something, and it'll be nice to know what it is!
P.S. Was I right about what it was drawn as? Or at least, some kind of Pliosaur? Even though I'm studying zoology, I'm such a geek for dinosaurs.

You are right about the pliosaur thing (a mosasaur would have been longer, and I don't even talk about the shapes of a plesiosaur), and it indeed looks VERY much like a Liopleurodon - but apart if it comes from a time gate, I doubt it's still THIS creature, but rather a descendant or cousin that would have keep or take almost the same shape.
Excellent answer anyway ^^ ^^

Well, as I said, megalodons were when they existed as they are recent creatures, all the other modern big sharks are also (concurent does not necessarily mean pred/prey relationships, just efficiency in hunting), plus all the carnivorous cetaceans - orcs, sperm whales, dolphins which are very fast and organized, even the big predatory fish like swordfishes and tunas can be.
Thats what happens when technology > nature. :s Still, in the grand scheme of things we're just a pimple on the ass of creation. Chances are that life will persist long after the human race is gone, and weirdly its that knowledge that makes my outlook on life so positive. I know that this isn't the end. :3
Also, bet your hoping for technology to advance just a little bit further so they can start to build mecha type stuff. :D

Oh, at that time, there were PLENTY of concurrents - Tha Pig just gave a good and bad example at the same time (good because sharks were great concurents, but Megalodons didn't exist at that time, bad because Megalodons are VERY recent creatures, far after the extinction of dinosaurs and aquatic reptiles), but there were also mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, ichtyosaurs.......
Don't see why the [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liopleurodon]Liopleurodon[/u] had to be alive for this scene.
Back in 1977 this baffling carcass turned up. And these fish are still around, despite all environmental efforts to the contrary...

though I never said it was a Liopleurodon personnally, it's true that I was inspired by its generic shape. As for the baffling carcass, it was just a small whale in decomposition, but people still want to see something else in that though it's pretty obvious and doesn't need to have a fantastic explanation (and I tell you that while I am the first to want to believe - I am even subscribing to a cryptozoology mailing list ! But not a fantasy one...). That's understandable of course, we are always attracted by mystery. Of course, sometimes the mystery is real as you gave the example of the Coelacanth.
