It's been made quite clear that's not the case. The story involving him ended with him sending the package with the discs to the pair and trying to get to the airport, where he was ambushed on the road and, though it was off camera, assailed by the creature/s. Here, the package has arrived and he made his flight, so continuity wise, this has to be after those events.
Also might help that 'a record' was set in December of 2037, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22785129/ and The Gambit is set in January 2038 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/24299253/
The confusion is deliberate, of course :P But also do bear in mind when Kas's record was mailed, versus when the last issue ended. (It's not like they saw him get in the accident and think he's okay regardless)

I'm still impressed that, with all the strange stuff that has been shown in this comic, that people are apparently at a complete loss how someone who should be dead is seemingly still alive and well, not even hacking and coughing every couple sentences. I mean, Rhoda is talking to a purple ghost with antlers and nobody bats an eye, then we see Kas here and people are confused like there's a continuity error.
