I've been playing so much Pokémon Sun that I decided to go with finally sitting down and deciding on my favorite Pokémon of each type. So here's my list, it didn't actually take too long, I just glanced over each type and picked my favorites.
In order:
Bug: Volcarona. This majestic bug flutters about and WRECKS FACE. I bred a bulky Special sweeper complete with Morning Sun and he was nearly unstoppable except for Stealth Rock. Bug was pretty easy, the only other one I really like is Scyther, I don't even care for Scizor that much. :/
Dark: Pangoro. Aside from the obvious, I really loved using him on my run of X. He was big and bulky, and my first Pokémon to reach 100 in that game. He hit hard and could take hits, so he was my usual Pokémon to use in pinches.
Dragon: Garchomp. I first learned of it right before DP dropped, and I made it my job to find one. This was about the time I started to care about what types, natures, IVs, and EVs pokemon had, so he made it onto my first semi-competitive team. And he never let me down. And Cynthia's was terrifying, so that just made Garchomp even cooler. :D
Electric: Luxray. The Electric-type is one of the types I've come to realize I didn't care for many of its members. Luxray is the definite exception to that rule. I caught him first off, and as he changed from Shinx to Luxio, I fell in love with my dearest Luxray. Alongside Garchomp, he was on my competitive team, and with a mixture of great bulk and Intimidate, he survived an Earthquake from my opponent, and the room exploded in incredulity. Ever since then, Luxray has been one of my favorites. :)
Fairy: Mimikyu. The Fairy-type is cool, but aside from Sylveon I didn't have many I liked. Until Mimikyu. The Ghost-type is my favorite type, and the pairing was perfect for me. It's a very powerful Physical sweeper, and my dear Xibalba was in the trio I used to destroy the Battle Tree, setting up and destroying all comers. And it's SO CUTE! :D
Fighting: Chesnaught. When I saw the X starters, I instantly loved Chesnaught. The big bulky knight Pokémon was awesome, despite what people might say. It's tanky, and with both Leftovers and Leech Seed, it can stall for such a long time. Combined with just how cheerful it is when you take care of it, I just adore this big dope. :)
Fire: Infernape. Fire monkey. That should be enough said, but with Simisear, I have to be specific now. XD Infernape was my chosen starter for both Diamond and Platinum, and he was a wonderful mixed sweeper. Flamethrower, Close Combat, Thunder Punch and any extra coverage for the situation made him a formidable threat. Plus, fire monkey.
Flying: Charizard. Cliche perhaps, but Charizard fits that niche of nostalgia and power, especially these days with both Mega evolutions. Salamence would also possibly have gone here, but the nostalgia, combined with my recent viewing of Pokémon Origins set the fire lizard in this spot.
Ghost: Dusknoir. As I said before, Ghost is my favorite type, and Dusknoir is a great one. Bulky, if slow, running a Curse/Pain Split set or just a powerful stall set means it's incredibly hard to knock out. Plus as an evolution for the still pretty cool Dusclops, the big cyclops ghost is a fitting one.
Grass: Simisage. I just couldn't keep my favorite grass monkey off the list. Chesnaught was here, but I had to, I just had to. I know people say that the Simis are terrible Pokémon, but I don't care. My Ronso was easily one of my strongest Pokémon in my run of Pokémon White. Paired with my Infernape Xochipilli, the two of them could sweep doubles with pretty good type coverage and speed, and stalling with Leech Seed made him such a fun Pokémon to use. And he is so positive, always with a thumbs up! :)
Ground: Nidoking. I really never paid attention to the Nidos until Gen V when he was given Sheer Force. After that, I bred a Special sweeping Nidoking with a BoltBeam set and he just could not be stopped. His cry is amazingly intimidating and his design is fantastic.
Ice: Froslass. I really didn't care much for Glalie, but in Gen IV when it got a split evolution for the female Ice/Ghost Froslass, I was so so happy. She is a powerful Pokémon, freezing and blasting others away. Her aesthetic and backstory was awesome to boot. With Dusknoir, she made up my first themed team, an all Ghost-team for the "Gym" my game club put up and I volunteered for.
Normal: Pyroar. Another Pokémon that people seem to hate, I actually love this fire lion. Some gripe about why it's skewed Special Attack when it's a LION, manly strong beast and all that, but given that male lions rarely participate in the hunting and instead stick around and mainly just need to roar to get their point across, it actually fits well. He blasted through everyone in my play of X, and regally at that.
Poison: Toxapex. Until recently with the addition of Fairy, I had no need for a Poison-type. However, in SM there was the addition of this amazing Pokémon. Defensive stats with the Merciless ability, Toxic Spikes, Recover, and Scald, this bastion means business. And it's also adorable.
Psychic: Gardevoir. I hadn't really used Psychics before RSE. Ralts, while so weak to start, became an amazing powerhouse when my Serra evolved into Gardevoir. As a wall, she was so difficult to beat. And the addition of the Fairy typing was awesome, and a Mega and a special evolution for male Kirlia, while not the same Pokémon, made Gardevoir feel even that much more special.
Rock: Tyranitar. GSC is my favorite generation, despite this Tyranitar kind of slipped by me. Once BW came by though, with the addition of weather teams and such, Tyranitar's Sand Stream not only hurt the enemy, but boosted Jack to near invulnerability. It's intimidating, strong, and bulky. It's just so cool.
Steel: Lucario. All the typical statements of how awesome it looks and such aside, this guy is truly powerful. Fast, hard-hitting, and with a diverse movepool, Lucario and its Mega evolution are dangerous for any foe. But aside from that, the jackal design and color, just all of it makes it an amazing Pokémon.
Water: Floatzel. Buizel is ADORABLE, and Floatzel is pretty awesome. It might not have the deepest movepool, but with Waterfall, Ice Punch, Crunch, and Aqua Jet, it made for a strong finisher. It was another Pokémon that my game club actually hated because it was fast and strong, nearly untouchable in rain, and flinches were always on the menu.
So that's my set of favorite Pokémon. I'll probably tweak the reasons as I read and rephrase, but my list as of SM is pretty set. Any you like? Any intent to do this as well? Please do so, I'm hoping to hear from anybody who wants to share. Thanks all! :)
